Tanny is a wiz with the cap but when it comes to talent his record speaks for itself--he has done an average job at best. If I was the owner ,,,after last years fiasco the whole organization would have to hit a Home Run as far as the draft and the up coming season goes---that said I am not the owner so it will most likely be same ole same ole
Funny, but I've always believed that people should stay with their core strengths and build from that. Tanny is a great capologist, but not the best talent evaluator. Ryan is a great DC, but knows very little so far about both the other side of the ball AND how to manage a team in general. Both might be better served at some future date to return to doing what they do best. If they screw this draft up, that date will get a lot closer.
That article was kind of funny. I frankly do not have a feel for what the consensus opinion is about Tanny by the writers who cover the Jets. My guess is that they are not as down on him as they might be because they realize that Woody is behind many of the more questionable moves. I can see that. I would put myself in that camp, except that it is still the case that Tanny is the GM, and when the GM is doing a crap job, it's hard to feel good about him if it comes down to the Good German "I vast only following orders!" defense.
Stay at 16 and take your pick of Barron or Upshaw. I don't care what ammo he uses to move around after that as long as we get another starter at RT or OLB/FS.
He needs to stay at 16. No more of this zeroing on a particular unproven player and giving up too much to get him. I don't want to see him trade down either. No reason to do this at 16.
I voted for stay at 16 and use every available pick for depth if no starter-types are still on the board.
I'm starting to get the feeling the Jets trade up to 11 to grab Floyd. I would love the pick, but not the move up to get him. Up until now I have really been all over Upshaw, as I think he'd be a great fit and he could be come an impact player quickly. But I'd rather get Sanchez a weapon in the first. With the exception of Holmes, who is barely worth his mouth, and Keller, we simply don't have anyone for him to throw to that he can really depend on. So the Floyd pick is the clear choice to me. The problem is that he will most likely be gone by our pick. I think if he is still there when the Chiefs get on the clock (and they will be shopping that pick if he is), the Jets overpay and get him. Again, this isn't what I want, just a bold prediction on what I believe will happen. And remember that this comes from the same guy who infamously said that "Vince Young will be to the NFL what Neo was to The Matrix", so take it for what it's worth. If the Jets stay at Floyd is still there, they simply MUST pull the trigger. They must.
I feel like we will actually use every pick this year. If Kalil drops below 6 we might trade up for him, but other than that I see this draft as pretty straight forward this year. We don't need to trade up for any other position, and OT is by far our biggest weakness. The draft is deep in WRs so we don't need to burn a 1st or even 2nd rounder on that position.
I'm of two minds. Imo getting a pass rushing LB will make this a top flight D, and is the one move that can best improve the D, taking it up to that stellar level, that can be made. But... the Jets are already balanced toward D more than O. Meanwhile, is #2 wideout presently a better position than ROLB? Not clearly so by any means, and in fact even RT is presently not as much of a gaping hole. The plan many here thought would be followed was to fill #2 wideout with B Edwards. I dunno, I get the feeling that is not going to happen. Which makes me think going wideout in the first round might well be what they end up doing.
