Forte would be a great add but the problem is he wants a ton of money which is why he may end up out of Chicago..I would rather try and draft another RB.
This is true, assuming that Greene's ribs allowed them to use him 20-25 times a game. The stuff that's come out recently suggests that Schotty chose to dial-up the passing game at the end because the locker room was fracturing due to Holmes antics in response to getting fewer targets than he wanted. I think what happened at the end last season was just a perfect storm of bad game-planning, poor performance and generally inept staffing and personnel decisions. Whether Greene could have saved the Jets is an unknown because they didn't give him the opportunity to do so. As to the original question: a RB is not worth a major investment in today's NFL. You can get guys to tote the rock for you effectively for very little investment at the start and the shelf-life of a top RB is only a few years anyway.
I think TJones also got his second contract with the Jets. But I think the poster was trying to say that the Jets rarely give more than one contract to a RB, with Martin being the exception. OP: Getting Forte is a pipedream and unnecessary. With Jesus, Greene, McKnight, and Powell in the backfield, we'd have to offload someone. That, plus our cap situation this year (and next) makes this move unlikely.
Yeah, he was the main reason I included 'general.' Throughout his career, Martin was the second most consistent RB in football and is 4th all time in rushing. That's probably not what we'd be getting with Forte. Thomas Jones slipped my mind but, that was a pretty rare case as he was younger than his age because of splitting time most of his career. He came here and played tremendously, and we were smart not to re-sign him afterwards. There are exceptions to everything. And maybe this team needs more of a legitimate threat at RB than most, but this year is not the year we will be infusing new talent I suspect. Lots of roster spots being used there right now and this is Greene's last year on his rookie deal. My rule of thumb is that most RBs (that would be upgrades) signing a 2nd contract will have played himself into a hefty deal and are prone to injury. Not to mention prone to enjoying success contingent upon the strength of the line in front of him.
What's the deal w the franchise tag on the new CBA? Anyway, we don't have the assets. We need to secure a solid foundation to build on rather than sticking some supposed star in a spot where we still need to evaluate our own depth, simply hoping he makes up for everything we can't pay for because of his $ demands.
We have plenty of rbs that have the potential to do well if our passing game can stretch the field...I don't think we need any more rbs. Maybe help at fb, but Connor will prob have a stronger season this year tho. And with Tebow to run the wildcat, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw both Greene and McKnight start to flourish more too.
I could narrow it down to one game as an example. The Giants game, Greene was rippin off 6-7 yard runs everytime he touched the ball, and yet they felt the need to have sanchez throw 59 times....
Didnt want to start a new thread but Jones drew is not at OTAs and If we could trade tebow and a 3rd to the jags for Jones drew I would do it NOW!!
I really dont see why everyone thinks our team is swiss cheese. I understand that the draft is important, but please explain who is a more viable option, a proven RB, or a potential RB/OLB/DT/DE/ETC
I'm pretty sure Schotty was feeling like toast at that point if his offense didn't do something special against their bigger brothers from across town. That the personnel wasn't there to do something special made his other option just to heave up a huge number of passes and pray.
Interesting hypothesis, but I think Scotty had more to gain by winning against the Giants and going 9-6 into week 17 against the Dolphins. Winning by going with what was the best apparent strategy both before and during the game. Running the ball. At that point, we still had a chance to go 10-6. I don't know how much turnover there is if we get to the playoffs even if we don't make it to the AFCCG. Schotty was just an idiot.
I figure rather than make a new thread id post it here. But what do you guys think of trading for Aaron Rodgers ? Maybe we could give up Revis, Sanchez, Tebow, 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and a bag of pretzle M&Ms to land him ?
