I was out at the bar tonight and got into a huge argument with at least two or three people over who the BEST player in the NFL is. :drunk: Who do you guys think is the BEST player in the National Football League? IMO, it either has to be Rodgers or Brees, hands down.
It has to be a Quarterback because they affect the game more than any other position. And then you could make an argument between any of Brady, P Manning, Brees and Rodgers. You're splittin hairs at that point.
To be fair he said best player, not biggest impact player. The best player would be the guy who is above and beyond all others at his position. And there really are a bunch of qbs who are "similiarish" in talent at the top of the list, but have different weapons/coaches/play styles so its truly hard to tell if any of them are that much above and beyond. In which case id make the case for Ngata, Revis, Willis, Calvin Johnson at the top of my list. Though I think Ngata really is at a whole another level right now along with Calvin Johnson (Revis normally would but had a somewhat down year by his normal standards). Two of them are just freakishly insane, though after last season id actually lean towards Megatron as the truly best player in the league
DCM has hit it the nail right on the head...Willis, Ngata, Revis, Calvin are definitely the best at there position.
I think JH hit it, although Suh's attitude is bad enough that he could well wind up with a really short career due to sanctions. The best player in the NFL right now on value is either Suh or Ngati. They play right over the ball and they have a bigger effect on every play than any other player in the league. If Suh or Ngati has a dominant game the opposing QB's value is significantly decreased. There is however no way to significantly decrease a dominant NT's value except by putting two people on him in which case somebody else got freed up. And obviously Ngati plays all over the front so he's not clearly an NT by trade but he mostly lines up between the guards or over a guard so he has a similar effect.
Based on last year alone: Brees/Rodgers, Ngata, Revis, Calvin. I'm not sure how to rank them though. The difference between Revis and other CB's is bigger than any other player and their counterpart I think.
Depends on what the end goal is. Winning games? Or individual accolades? If it's about winning games, then it kind of has to be a QB. There are numerous examples of teams that had one or two outstanding players at non-QB positions and the teams still sucked. But there aren't too many teams that have had great QBs and sucked (at least not in the modern era). If it's about individual play, then it could be anyone. I'd say the best offensive player is Rodgers, Brady, or Brees. Defensively, I'd go with Revis, or Suh.
I wasn't sure what constituted 'best'. You could list the best(s) at each position and then still would have to decide who is the best of the best. What would be the tie breaker? Impact? If so, it's certainly QB. Guys that standout over others at their position are the ones you mentioned: Megatron, Revis, Ngata, P Willis.
That really all depends on what one would define as the "best" in the NFL. If one is talking about the most dominant at their position, its Darelle Revis over any other player. If one is talking about the most impactful in a game, I'd have to say its either Brees or Brady.
Revis should down Megatron. Revis has been more consistent than any NFL player. Even Brady, Rodgers, and Brees have had quite a few bad games. Revis has one, once a year.
Rodgers is the best offensive player, and Revis is the best defender. And for what it's worth, in the near future I think it will be Newton and Peterson.
