Landry is already replacing him at SS. Smith is in no way a FS so Im assuming we sign Jimbo and make Smith a backup
Only one safety in the NFL gave up more passing yards when targeted than Smith last year and it was a guy who played about 150 more snaps. He's a liability when forced into coverage and he's not fast enough to recover when he is beat. The guy replacing him isn't much better in coverage but at least he has speed to recover if he is beat. I like Smith as a situational 46 player and special teams guy and hope he's still on the team.
That exactly. Smith is a great situational player like Maybin is but in no way do you want them being an every down type player.
Agreed. He should have a lesser role and not assigned Cover 1 duties. The way people here talk about him though it's like he's a complete scrub.... He has definite value. And can play special teams.
I hope we bring back Jim Leonhard for depth. Small guy, brittle, but knows the system really well and would be fine for the rotation. It's looking like it's gonna be one big rotation at S this year.
Unfortunately I HAD a dream last night that had Landry and Smith starting together. Hopefully its wrong.
