I thought it was very interesting to see a couple of weeks ago where it was being said that Cotch was starting to look like he might become the #1 WR. I asked it then, and I'll ask it again, can you imagine if he is good enough to overtake Coles for the top slot, and Coles is still as good as he has ever been? That would be one helluva tandem.
Coles would be an outstanding #2, although we still need that whole QB thing straightened out before I can daydream.
You guys are going to enjoy Dwight. He was a fan favorite among Falcons fans during his time in Atlanta.
He only signed a one year deal with the Pats! He was free to sign with any team he wished. The Pats wanted him back.
Dwight should make multiple Pro Bowls with us. He'll make us forget Chrebet, Keyshawn, Walker, Toon, Sauer, Maynard, and Dedric Ward. This guy could easily be a hall of famer someday and I'm glad he's on our roster...
My bad, with the way it had been explained to me in a different conversation, I had made the assumption that Dwight had been cut. But the reason I made the assumption was because it was mentioned that Dwight had some key fumbles at the worst times, and that does not sound like clutch to me.
Chrebet had the "it" factor that Dwight has never had. I would pick Chrebet in his prime over Dwight in his prime anytime.
dwight is a solid 3 wr and in certain schemes, good for screens (although it looks like coles toe is finally healed after 3 years so hes the go to there too) but in no way and i mean this with all respect to dwight (ima short white guy too who right now is playin semi pro at age 17) is a wayne chrebet. chrebet was a god on 3rd down, he was the embodiment of th jets his whole career so before we start donning people the new chrebet, lets wait shall we?
hmmm. I have every game dwights ever played in the NFL on tape, including those he played with the Patriots last year. He has had a few fumbles in his career, the only ones I can recall have been on kick-off returns though. When did he fumble for the Patriots? I was only trying to clarify the facts in your first post and now am compelled to do so again. I'm not here to compare Dwight to Chrebet, OR vice-versa. Tim did Leave Iowa as the leading receiver in school history, in basically three years time. But he was a running back in High School and made a wide-out in college. I do not feel he is a natural receiver, like Chrebet. But I think in the slot is where Tim is best suited. Maybe he will never have hands like Wayne, but when Atlanta used him in the slot in '99, he lead the NFL with a 20.9 YPC, with 90% of those catches 3rd down conversions, check it out!
Ha, that's what I get for taking someone on their word! Someone had told me a while back that Dwight had untimely fumbles, I guess I could have confirmed this with a simple search but or some reason there didn't seem to be a reason to do so because we hadn't been actively pursuing Dwight at the time. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Dwight. I like that things he brings to the table. I just got caught with my pants down a little after having taken a couple of bad batches of info at face value.
The only real comparison you can make between the two are that they a small white guys playing WR who play the slot. Not enough for me to agree that they are similar. Chrebet has been consistent, sneaky quick and has the ability to make some ridiculous catches. I expect dwight to shine some weeks and remain quiet in others, but he does offer a certain long ball potential that can come in handy when Clemens starts playing. Its also nice knowing we have a proven Punt Returner and won't have to worry (as much) about the football on Special Teams. A solid pickup, but not a chrebet level player.
Tim is easily going to get 50+ catches this year and he will take some heat off Coles. McCareins is on his way off the starting line-up, whether Cotch or Dwitch replaces him it doesn't matter. He was just another bad pickup by the old regime. I loved Chrebet and I love the idea of Tim replacing him.
Dwight's had 50 catches in a season ONCE in his entire career, and he played for Atlanta, San Diego, and New England, 3 teams that aren't really powerhouse WR teams. The one time he caught 50 passes, it was EXACTLY 50 in 2002, the only year other than last year (where he caught 19) that he played all 16 games.
Other than them both being undersized white guys I see no similarities what so ever between Chrebet and Dwight. In his best years Dwight was basically a one trick act, a pure speed reciever/return guy. Chrebet on the other hand was established as a gritty clutch reciever with great hands and had deceptive quickness off the line but no breakaway speed. Other than being relatively short white guys, in a lot of ways they're total opposites.
I love Dwight as a player. He is waaay faster than W.C. ever was (after SuperBowl with San Diego he went back to Iowa where he had track eligibility and won Big Ten 100 meter championship and was named MVP of Big Ten Meet......but he is nowhere near as durable as WC not even close. Dwight is tough though and actually played with a collapsed lung during his stint in San Diego. Here are links to some cool plays. You can find the SuperBowl touchdown on there as well. http://www.scothawk.com/tim_dwight_highlights.html http://homepage.mac.com/scothawk/TimDwight/iMovieTheater69.html
I don't understand? If this guy was so great why has he bounced around from team to team. Is it because of the salery cap or something about him that teams grow tired of? Just curious.
There is only one Wayne Chrebet. He is second on the all-time team list with 580 receptions and third with 7,365 yards. His 41 career touchdowns rank eighth. The Jets could always go to him when they absolutely needed to convert on third down: 379 of his career receptions went for first downs. In 101 games, Tim Dwight has 172 receptions for 2,754 yards and 17touchdowns, and 49 rushes for 340 yards and three scores. You can't compare Dwight with Chrebet - Period.
Agreed. It seems every small white guy is Wayne Chrebet. If anything, Cotchery reminds of Chrebet more than Dwight.
Lol thats because there aren't alot out there! Ed McCaffery and Chrebet are good wr's, this has nothing to do with color. Besides Tim Dwights been around a few nfl teams, obviously because he's a special teams ace and a good slot wr, not b/c he's white.
