There are a whole lot of different topics going on and I thought this needed specifically pointed out in it's own for thorough discussion. Sanchez vs.......the pressure! Listen, I like Sanchez as a person. Could he be more of a leader? Absolutely! That does come with time and age. He is still young. I like the FLASHES I've seen of him as a football player. He needs to put it all together. What I do not like is what I've seen from him under pressure. Not game pressure...for the most part he's actually performed reasonably well, for a young QB, under some of the worst types of game pressure. His record in the playoffs shows that. I'm talking about non-game pressure. A REAL competitor, when the team brings someone like Tebow in, steps up, takes the bull by the horns, slaps it around and screams "who's your daddy!" When Ryan threatened to put Brunell in I was not impressed by what I read as far as Mark's reaction. I was even less impressed by his game performance. This guys needs to step up his personal performance...he needs to see the opportunity and come in focused and prepared. Not let the Tebow circus distract him. If this is all it takes to get him off his game or hurt his feelings then he will never lead us to a SB and, if that's the case, needs to go sooner rather than later. Football is not for the faint of heart. You can't boo hoo when something doesn't go your way. You step up and deal with it. Take Alex Smith in San Fran...he could of tucked his tail and whimpered all the way to Miami. Of course he would have gotten his head kicked in game after game...but he swallowed a bit of pride, proved he was a competitor, went back and I have no doubt he will go in there with an even bigger chip to prove people wrong. And it's a good bet San Fran will be a favorite for the NFC SB bid this year. Sanchez needs to do this. Step up...tell the FO to sniff his crack, seize the job and perform. Ensure that the only thing Tebow will do is be in a few WC packages....just like B. Smith. Penny for your thoughts, folks!
He's going to have to be very good for the Jets not to put Tebow in for the marketing. Just being good isn't going to do it. I think he's toast in NYC at this point. There is a chance that he becomes Aaron Rodgers good next year but it is a very small chance. If he just becomes Tom Brady in 2002 good and the Jets aren't barrelling along on the path to the playoffs all year then Tebow-mania is going to seep in at the edges because Woody Johnson wants to sell PSL's and he's already sold every PSL he's likely too with Mark Sanchez unless the Jets become dominant. He's not really likely to become Tom Brady in 2002 good though. If he does what Eli Manning did his 4th season as of the midway point? Say hello to the Jet's new QB Tim Tebow.
the Giants have won 2 SBs recently, they have a QB in his prime w/ 2 SB MVPs and they cannot sell all their PSLs. I would hope he's not making any calls about tebow p;aying and I would hope Rex is strong enough to resist that temptation. I have full confidence in Sanchez to be a good QB, I have seen too many positives from him to jump of the bandwagon. last year he struggled a bit but our Ol stunk and the run game stunk for half the year. Mark Sanchez was a good QB in 2010 despite average #s, I expect he'll be back to at least his 2010 level if not better. if our D is back to normal we'll have a shot to win in January.
He's gonna have to go far and beyond realistic expectations ala being elite this year or the next. He's been coddled...and that didn't turn out so well..so here is to being pressured.
I don't know if I hate the Jets FO or our ridiculous fan base more. I'm leaning toward the fan base. I love seeing posts by Catt County (and other so called Jets fans) when he thinks we are screwed cause Tebow will be taking over Sanchez' spot. It's not like Sanchez was a 3 year starter in college and had 7 years in the NFL to finally show is abilities (cough Fitzhardvard cough). I'll support the move if the Jets stick to their guns and use Tebow the way they are talking. If this is a PR move with intent to undermine Sanchez unless he has an elite year, then this was terrible. RT & WR were more important to improving Mark, or any QB the Jets would have under center, than getting another gadget player. I wonder how good Mark would be if Cotch, Edwards and Holmes were still the WRs and we had someone who could stop a nosebleed at RT. Instead we focus on circus media attention and gadget, non-fulltime players. Not sure what to make of it.
Sadly, Sanchez up until this point, hasn't show much moxie when it comes to off the field pressure. He might be banging Kate Upton, but other than that, he's shown he's still basically a kid from SoCal. This FO/CS will also be feeling pressure from all the Tebots that will be clamoring for Timmae to come in at the first sign of a Sanchez hiccup. Not that Sparano's offense will allow for much passing anyway, but Sanchez's leash just got a helluva lot shorter.
I never believed in that he needs a backup quarterback to pressure him to play well. Not only is he playing in the National Football League, but also he is playing in New York. He has had the pressure on him already. He career with the Jets is make or break next year, either he will rise to the occasion or fall short.
People need answers when things don't go well, they need to find excuses why things aren't going well. sanchez didn't stink down the stretch b/c he didn't have a backup to pressure him.
I still find it hard to believe that Sanchez loses his job under any circumstance, barring injury, this year. He has two guaranteed years and he might lose it next year but they couldn't even trade him if they bench him this year. Not to mention that if they do then Ryan and Tannenbaum are gone after giving him that new deal. Of course if they bench him and end up going to the superbowl then all bets are off.
All the pressure is going to be on Rex and in part Tanny when the start Tebow avalanche begins in the preseason after Tebow does something good against 2nd and 3rd stringers.
I like Sanchez and support him more than anybody I know, but I think it is time to throw him from the nest and say fly or die. If he can't beat out Tim Tebow, then he isn't good enough.
I think is exactly what is happening here..I just don't understand why they would have given him an extension and then go ahead and make him prove himself. Nobody was expecting him to get one and nobody thought he deserved one. Just another bizarre Tannenbaum move in a career full of them. There is no doubt they would have brought in Manning if he was willing to come here, he says no way so they react by giving Sanchez an extension..and then...and then...bringing in Tebow....bizarre.
He doesn't have to beat out Tim Tebow, he's the starter and there is no competition. Sanchez is taking all the first team snaps. The problem with be whether or not Rex and Tanny can ignore all the unwarranted cries from the media, fans and ownership to start teblow.
This year is make or break for Sanchez, should be a fun ride. He seems to thrive under pressure, so let's see if he grabs the bull by the horns.
if they allow the fans and media to dictate who plays then they weren't cut out for this job long term. I have full confidence they won't react based on the mdia and fans.
if mark plays well the calls for tebow will be easy to ignore. if mark sucks the calls would have came for anyone who was signed to be the backup
You are wrong. The start Tebow avalanche will not be easy to ignore and it will be far louder than anything we ever could have imagined for Drew Stanton.
The problem is that if Marks plays ok the calls for Tebow will come anyway unless the Jets are on a major roll.
