Teams are not dumb, and they all want 2 good backs if they can help it. This means we're not getting the likes of TJ Duckett, Maurice Morris or Julius Jones. Teams know they need 2 backs to spell the #1 occassionally.

Please, keep your "let's get...... " realistic.

People can come up with all the fantasy trades they want, but I wish they'd keep it to themselves, as most cases have little to no shot of happening. Unless they back it up with some reports or solid reasoning other than "hey, he's a RB, let's get him", I really wish these RB threads would stop as well.

Might get TJ just cuz the Falcons are in love with rookie RB Jerious Norwood but I doubt it.

You'd think after all these years, you guys would be used to this by now. Every year we get these kinds of threads until the koolaid wears off. Mostly by folks that are new and perhaps exploring their rather fertile imaginations.. :)

How about we trade Martin for LJ? Or is Herm ready for his "new" project....

I have decided that there are 2-3 parts to the NFL Season. Right now, we are in the crazy trade rumors part of the season when people get to play out trade scenarios like it is Madden. This stage lasts from about a week after the draft until week 6(trade deadline). After week 6, if the Jets are good, there is the time where everyone gets excited about possibly going to the playoffs and superbowl aspirations. Unfortunately because of our rebuilding year, we will probably just skip to the third stage:the draft. This is the time of year where there are millions of different mock drafts posted, and annoying fans wanting us to take our third TE in the first round.

    Well........what if we do?

I mean that in the sense of what effect will it have on drafting an RB for next season. For instance, let's say we give up a 3 or 4 for one of the 3 players you mentioned (although I doubt the jets fo are going to) and he has close to a 1,000 yard season?

Let's say we end up in a situation where we are not sure if this back can the feature?

What round would we then take a back?

My preference is to draft an RB in the first round next year unless we get an unexpected great season from a current Jet RB or an acquired one. At the same time I would like a decent year from the running game so we can have an adequate evaluation of the QB position.

I wouldn't mind if we gave Artose Pinner a chance. I really like him and Detroit has no room for him on their roster. However rumor has it Detroit may be willing to shop Arlen Harris around too, who I also would take in a New York Minute

What about Samkon Gado, third string behind Green and Davenport. He showed promise last year playing behind a porous Packer line. Is he even available?

I really think we need to give Blaylock some more time. I think with Houston, Blaylock and Washington, we'll have RB by commitee, and wait till next year to explore thru FA or draft.

Some #2 backs would be available though. Guys like Suggs, Chris Brown, Mewelde Moore, etc all could be had. You are right though, most #2 backs are too valuable to their teams to trade.

    Guys, we're not getting a team's #2 back

Especially if they have learned to flush.

I think you'd be surprised. Falcons' brass has been impressed by rookie 3rd rounder Jerious Norwood out of Miss. State. He's being groomed to be Warrick Dunn's replacement (whenever that might be) and will assume the #2 spot in 2007, after Duckett departs.

As a Falcons fan, I think you might see some of this talk (i.e. Duckett in a trade) if Norwood continues to show well this pre-season.

Let's hope so... but that'll mean that Duckett is either 2B or 3 (if you know what I mean) in their rotation. Heck, I'd still take him, but I don't want to gvie up one of those 2nd rounders. Those can be very valuable next year moving up in the 1st round if desired.

I think it was Hutchinson who said today the Jets were willing to give up a 3rd round pick for Duckett.

    EDIT: Found the article

    http://www.nj.com/jets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1155704336116390.xml&coll=1

Another article by Hutchinson today says Grady Jackson is in for a visit. We might be looking at Jackson and Duckett being on the team shortly.
