the bengals went to the playoffs with a promising rookie qb and have a good defensive head coach, so why would nelson want to come to the jets and disfunction junction? this isn't the same respected rex ryan team of two afc championship games. they are now the laughing stock of the nfl and there are no FA calling out wanting to be jets any longer! the jets are left with rebuilding thru the draft and hoping they hit big or they'll be watching teams pass them by!
what are they going to offer a team for a free safety, bart scott? LOL. what do the jets have that a team would want to give up a solid free safety?\ nothing, thats what! i think you drank a little too much today and need some sleep.
I had a look at all the safeties listed as starters at the start of the 2011 season (NFC only then I got bored). Of the 32 safeties listed, 16 of them were drafted in round #2 or #3, with nine coming from the second round. It certainly looks as though rounds 2 and 3 are the places to look to get a starting safety. I was surprised to see as many starters were taken in round 3 as were taken in rounds 4, 5, 6 and 7 combined. edit: there are some really OTT posts on here at the moment - a guy chose to remain with a team that turned his career around and where he is presumably happy and people try to turn it into some huge slap in the face for the Jets.
thats exactly why the jets have the depth problems that they do. trading draft pics was good for the players they got (sanchez being the exception, stinks) but there are no free safties in the draft worth or around the league worth over paying for.
What, just because they were $50 million under the cap? Impossible, it must be because the Jets are a circus. There's no way he could have known the Jets were a circus prior to scheduling a visit and using them for leverage to get as much of that $50 million as possible.
Trading a 3rd for a solid safety starter , which is extremely possible, is a smart move if you don't have a player at that position. Depth is a problem but not having a starter is a much worse scenario to have.
Once he left the Jets without a deal, only a Sunshiner could.think he was going to sign with them. No surprise here.
The way last season ended with all the fireworks...this team & fanbase desperately need a decent transaction that will improve the team & give some hope for this upcoming season. This safety situation is gonna get ugly real quick
Exactly, trading away a mid round pick for a starter is a smart move. But when we start trading away multiple picks for a single player is when depth takes a major hit
Safeties are in huge demand around the league now because of the influx of matchup nightmare TEs. You aren't going to get a decent one for a 3rd. Not to mention most teams aren't going to trade their decent safeties.
I understand what you're talking about and you're correct but plenty of team who have either an overpaid safety, are in cap hell, or a safety that is about to leave in FA are very willing to give up their safety for the right price.
I am fucking pissed he ended up going back to cincy...this was something needed to get done and we let him walk ...we might have to come to gripes that there is a good chance we draft Barron in the first round...it is not ideal but it might not be the worst thing ...hopefully we trade back and get Barron and Branch
