While I agree the combine/pro days is not the end all, be all of scouting it tells some things about a player. In Burflict's case, it tells the story of a once highly rated prospect that had slipped in play this season showing up not ready to prove that the downward turn in play was something else. Given a chance to prove something, he did nothing. Given the chance to explain why he under performed this year, he threw his coaches under the bus. Given yet another chance to change the way people think about him he did nothing to improve.

Its a pattern of behavior at this point. Its everyone's fault but his own and he shows that he's not interested in working hard to impress scouts. His game type does not show a guy who can flat out play. It shows a wild cannon that over persues and would rather make a big hit than the right play. The only obivous resault is that he cares as much about football as Jamarcus Russell, just enough to get paid and maybe not even that much.

Slipping play, no respect for coaches, and unwilling to prepare for the combine let alone a NFL season are going to kill this kid come draft day.

If Burfict is drafted in the late rounds,I doubt he will be dressed this season. Usually, people drafted in the late rounds don't make it off the practice squad their first year. He would definitely be someone who is learning more his first year rather than being on the field.

When Scott is cut next year, McClain would still be there and then you have Burfict I LB rotation. This sounds more like a Madden situation then something that will actually happen. I doubt even 3 of the many gaping wholes we have will be addressed.

I bet there are plenty of teams hoping he does so they can get a late round steal

Your second paragraph is just evidence in defense of my point. It's not a question of where Burfict lands. It's not even a question of getting McClain along with a top OLB prospect. It's a question of resources. We have a lot of needs to address and limited resources to do it with. Utmost care must be placed to make sure that resources are utilized as economically as possible.

There is no way to get around the clusterfuck that is our LB situation with the Pace and Scott contracts/players weighing us down this year. The best thing to do is just face reality and try to get one or two guys that will contribute the most to that unit this year, then address whatever remains a need after Scott and Pace are out of the picture.
