Regardless of what they do with Scott, they still need a linebacker who can actually cover someone.

Do we know if Mcclain is actually capable of covering tight ends and dropping into zone?

I think coverage is his weakness. He was a DE and LB in college and is known as tackler, a hard hitter and get to the QB guy.

From what I have read his weakness is coverage but he improved greatly last season in that area.

Any MLB who is capable of covering guys like Gronk, Hernandez, or any of the nfls better receiving HBs is gonna command big $$$

Long as he can tackle, and maybe keep up with FBs and #2 TEs im happy with that

If they find a trade partner, the other team will have his guaranteed salary, we'd just be on the hook for the dead cap hit of his signing bonus. The real obstacle is finding a team that wont demand a draft pick for taking him off our hands.

Show me the team that's going to trade for 32 year old Bart Scott $4.2 million guaranteed contract. The guy I responded to seemed to be implying he's going to be cut to me.

As we get closer to camp, a team like Cinci might. They're 30-40 mil under the cap and by rule have to spend at least 90%. Teams like Cinci with a lot of cap room may look to add a moderate salary with good leadership skills. But I doubt it also.

Wed be Somewhat foolish to cut him after FA/draft.

either we plan to move forward without him, or with him.

Its within reason hed restructure/take a pay cut to facilitate a trade

Vontaze Burflict might be an UDFA. Apparently he looked even worse in the drills during his Pro Day and managed only 16 reps on the bench. Combine that with his off field issues, he's a 7th rounder at best.

Edit: I don't know how to quote, this comment is for the guy who suggested we keep Scott and draft Burflict.

I dont know if he would fall that far.

The guy can play football, if he goes past the 4th/5th rounds something is VERY wrong

Here is how it will work. Scott's contract will not be picked up by anyone , so a trade is not going to happen. Hes under contract and will be expected to play period! Picking up some new blood will be good and as always at the right price is the key.

I think the Jets front office has a difficult time admitting when they make a mistake or over spend

Scott will be on the team next year and then will be cut. If McClain is brought in and Burfict is drafted in the late rounds, the LB corps would look pretty damn good as long as we draft an OLB.

I mean...your strategy cannot possibly be correct.

First you resigned Thomas, you've got Pace and Scott both sitting there sort of like lame ducks and then you add Maybin to the equation in an increased role of some form next year.

Now you want to Bring in a 1st/2nd round OLB, Burfict, and McClain? Surely it's better to bring in 2 out of the 3 the most, alot the saved resources elsewhere that they'll have an immediate impact above piling onto our hypothetically cramped and clogged (due to executing your recommendations) linebacking corps.

Upgrading our linebacking unit is a 2 year process from where I'm sitting right now. Surely not one.

The Lb we're 'hoping for' can stuff the run, kill the QB, and drop back and shut down the Gronk. Of course, 'that' LB will cost $10M/yr.

The LB we can afford? Pick any 2 out of the 3 things in the first sentence.

Something is very wrong with him. He basicly bombed so bad a tthe combine and Pro day, physicaly and in interviews, that its rumored alot of teams hae completely removed him form thier boards. The guy went into one of the biggest job interviews on the planet completely unprepaired, shit on his old bosses, and acted like a clown. He's going to drop like a rock.

The guy can flat out play I don't care what a combine or pro day says. Put him in pads and tell him to hit someone. The results are obvious.

However the horrendous buzz about his interviews is offputting.

I doubt he goes undrafted 4th to 7th rd would be my guess. Alot of smokescreening goes on between now and april

Never said he's gonna give up his money, but he could redo his contract.

An offset provision would allow us to effectiveely cut him, while him still getting his money. Only difference is some of it would come from another team

If a guy wants to play, he will find a way to make it happen
