I do recall RaiderJoe touting Schillens in his annual Jamarcus will be a hall of famer threads. I do miss those threads. But in all seriousness when Schillens has been healthy he has shown flashes. He has great size and speed. He could be our deep threat. He should come cheap and has some upside. Unless we get lucky he does not seem to be a number 2 WR. But I don't see us investing money into the WR position to get a viable number two WR which makes Schillens potential the best value we will get for the money. As much as people love Braylon it seems unlikely he will come back. Cotchery even at min salary does not fit our needs as already have a slot receiver and he is not a deep threat. My guess is even with Schillens or whatever low budget receiver signed the Jets will draft a WR as this years receiver class is very deep.
After all his injuries, I doubt he can run a 4.3 anymore. As someone said.."Is this the best the Jets F.O. can do...?" It's going to be a LONG off-season.
Say what you like about jeaux, crazed optimism is far more tolerable than moaning and bitching. It's day two of free agency. Relax.
No... not even close. McCareins couldn't catch a cold, and wasnt a legitimate deep threat. Schilens is a big bodied physical receiver with speed. He has flashed a ton of potential. Unfortunately he has been bitten by the injury bug, and hasnt stayed healthy. He is a high risk high reward guy. If he stays healthy, he could pay off big time. Chances are, he won't stay healthy though. These are the types of signings to expect this year. We don't have money to spend so we can't go get true proven players.
Well, Jacoby Ford was their deep threat so they had that covered. Not to mention DHB can run with anyone and has decent size. He was their 1st round pick a couple years ago, which btw, was an incredibly bad choice (Gotta love Al Davis). Not to mention his injury problems. I originally posted unimpresssive, but when I saw that he was 6'4 and ran a sub 4.4 forty, I have to say it did impress me. If he can come here and stay healthy, he can be a force in this league (as long as he has good hands).
One L First of all, congratulations on spelling Chaz's surname correctly. As far as what I bolded, Schilens is not a high risk if the Jets don't shell out a ton of money. The Jets need not make this a high risk. He needs to be signed to a medium risk or low risk contract.
We limited cap room you have to take a flyer on guys like this. Size and speed...i heard hewas targeted 34 times last year caughts 23 passes and dropped one.. not a bad ratio..who knows..I don't think we are breaking the bank on this guy...I wish we were moving faster with Reggie Nelson though
The draft is such a crapshoot you can't sign a #4 guy hoping somebody like Floyd will be there when you pick.
Done Deal.. New York Jets @nyjets #EA The Jets have agreed to principle on a contract with WR Chaz Schilens.
Definely worth a look. The Cowboy's took a chance on often injured Laurent Robinson and he had 11 TD's. Strange things happen in the NFL
That was basically my thoughts on the idea, as long as its a low incentive-laden contract we're good...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htHCwB1F-xM thats what we can expect. the catch and flip at :30 is pretty impressive
I like this signing too. He is 6' 4" and runs sub 4.3. I remember that one of the goal for the 2012 team was speed.
The flip isnt impressive, it means hes a bit of a moron and thats probably why he gets injured. When you start doing crap like that when youre PAST the first down marker, and not near the endzone, hes effectively risking his health for 1-2 garbage yards. Its like the same shit that DK did last year and almost gave himself a concussion. Stupid
what are u talking about? no he doesnt... its at :32 he like jumps and then keeps running and carrying dudes on his back. He seems like a solid WR who will come a great price most likely.
