Jets make splash: SOJF goes "This is Redskins move written all over it!"

Jets make quite moves: SOJF goes "WE ARE DOING NOTHING! WE ARE GOING TO GO 0-16! OMFG!!"

Not to some die-hard WFH defense forces. They say it is a brilliant insurance policy, I tell ya! (Guaranteeing WFH's salary, then putting him on a trading block sure looks like a stroke of Genius. That I admit!)

Why do people think we're going into every off-season targeting big money guys? Be realistic. We can barely afford our draft picks at the moment.

Your first sentence I agree with. But we have more than enough to sign our drafts picks.

The Jets almost never sign UFAs from other teams under Tannenbaum. Jason Taylor was the only one before 2010 and I don't think we signed any last year.

We've been more active with released players like Burress and Tomlinson; or trades like Cromartie and Schlauderaff; or signing our own guys like Holmes and Pouha.

    This isn't an unusual approach.

yeah, the only fa's during the rex era that i can recall, other than taylor, are scott/leonhard/poole. maybe brunell? i don't know if he was released or not. but come on, he doesn't really count anyways.

we do seem to love the released guys though.. especially if they're old.

    god we love them old.

There is the problem, in 06 we drafted 2 sure things with first round picks and haven't faired well since. We haven't developed a good OL prospect out of the second day of the draft in years. Moore was drafted in 03. Slauson is servicable between two really good line man but he is hardly a top NFL guard. We have also drafted 4 running backs moving up to pick Greene and we still don't have a top notch Full Back or running back and even our running back by committee is suspect with Tomlinson gone.

Not to mention the only TE we can get on the field is one we traded up into the first round for. Most NFL teams develop these players from the 3rd round down. We can't get a servicable blocking TE on the field.

I even had one guy tweet me last night with anti-Semitic abuse of Mike Tannenbaum on account of our not having signed anyone yet.

    Some people have no perspective.

I blocked that guy, but there will likely be others thinking the same.

I think FA is a way of over paying for value in the NFL. Let's have a GREAT draft and then see what we got in training camp before we go crazy here....

    YUP...

Did you see what Robinson got paid?? Like 36M...holy shit!!

We are going to pick up a S...now we have too. And some o line depth somewhere....

It just amuses me that people freak out when we dont sign people like the Jets organization didnt have a fucking plan way before FA started. Plus you cant just look at this year when you sign people you have to be able to see 3-4 years down the road.

The best is the Skins...They paid a ton of money for a bunch of questionable receivers. A Garcon, Josh Morgan, Eddie Royal receiving core does not scare me.

I hope all this planning will get us some serious OL and a RB help.

We need somebody who can cover tight ends, preferably more than one guy who can. I don't care how we get them, but it's a glaring need.

Earth to members of the "instant gratification generation", cool your Jets. Its been less that 3 days of FA. Its not over until SEPTEMBER. 5 days before the season started the Pats signed what turned out to be the a first team probowl G (Brian Waters), and it barely caused a media ripple.

So you can join the many Pats fans, and I assume other fans across the league who are in panic mode because their team hasn't made a big splash in FA....so far.

BTW- I'm still in mourning because my FA "binky" for the Pats, Richard Marshall, just got signed by the Dolphins for a contract I would have done in a second (just over 5MM/yr for 3 years). I'm going to hate having to see him twice a year now in freakin teal, playing against my team, who he would have been a perfect fit for.

But the Pats did sign Fanene. A guy who looks like he can rush the passer from the inside, create pressure up the middle, take some of the pressure off of Vince, and came pretty cheap. BTW-before yesterday, I'd never heard of him , and he had 6.5 sacks as a part time player.

The lesson here is, as fans, who knows how no name guys, who underwhelm US, will do in the end.
