Jets plan on spending about an additional $10 mil in 2012.

As it stands, the Jets are at $111 mil for 2013, and assuming the additional $10mil in 2012 will be the same for 2013 as well, Jets will be at $121 mil. Jets can release Scott and Pace and save about $15mil. That would bring their cap around $106mil.

Jets only have 29 players under contract for 2013. We'll probably have about an additional 10 players with the $10mil Jets will spend this year. So we would be at around 40 players max for 2013.

    2013 major FAs for Jets:
    Brandon Moore
    Dustin Keller
    Mike DeVito
    Shonn Greene
    Matt Slauson
Plus two released starting LBs in Scott and Pace needing replacements

Two decent starting guards will cost Jets about $8mil. Keller will cost about $6-7mil IMO. A starting DE will cost another $5mil. Shonn Greene could cost us as much as $8 mil depending on how he performs in 2012. You add all of these up and you have about $25-30 mil in spending to replace the significant FAs. Then on top of that, you still have to have replacements for THREE LBs (Scott, Pace and Thomas). Lets assume we pick four starters in this year and next years draft with three of them being BT, Scott and Pace's replacements, plus a safety.

Current 2013 Jets cap: $126 mil
Additional $10mil (draft signees, FAs) spent in 2012 to flow thru to 2013: $6 mil
Cap space saved by cutting Pace, Scott, Hunter, Eric: $22 mil
Cap space required to sign starting WR, TE, RB, DE, LG, RG, RT, S: $25+mil
Cap space spent on Draft picks, plus in season reserve: $7 mil
    Jets estimated cap for 2013: (126 + 6 - 22 + 25 + 7) $142 mil.

Even after drafting FOUR starters in the next two drafts and a few reliable backups, we will still be about $13 mil over the cap assuming 2013 NFL salary cap is around $125 mil, and thats after replacing all the starters with non-superstar signings.

This is why I am fine with Jets trying to plug the holes with cheaper signings this year and NOT backloading any more contracts. I have confidence in Mr. T, but he's got a hill to climb the next couple of years. Don't expect Jets to sign any big name FAs to contract beyond 2012.

Too soon man. Too soon. We don't know who will earn an extension and who will earn a pink slip.

Doesn't matter. Anyone getting the pink slip WILL need a replacement. Any extension will just simply push a few mils to future years

Keller is making I believe $3+Mil right now on rookie contract. And if Shonn has a 1300 yard, 12 TD season, u don't think he'll demand as much as 10 mil IN FA? $8mil for sure. Jets are planning on a ground and pound season again n those stats would not surprise me at all.

No hes not getting 10 million, or 8 million.

I think Shonn would be happy with 5 years 28 million, with a couple more in incentives, hes not an elite hb.

If we pay Keller 6m +, somethings wrong.

And youre forgetting were likely to address some of these need positions from the draft .

Your minds in the right place, but I think your #s are way way too high

Just for comparassion Benson had almost 1000 yards (in 12 games), and going into free agency he got 2 years 7million.

Obv he had off field concerns, but 8-10 mill is elite back #s

Keller is not making 6-7. Greene might not make half of 10 million. Slauson is most likely making less then 4. Why exactly are we spending 5 million on a DE. Thank God you are not our GM.

Well those two are guarenteed to be gone due to absurd contracts, along with Hunter, and Probably Smith (unless he has a monster year)

Awesome you just made life really easy. Take the 175 million you were going to spend on Shonn Greene and draft a first or second round halfback that is going to produce more for less than 2 mil. Rinse and repeat for Keller or whoever else you're drastically overvaluing.

Revis will likely have to be traded to manage the cap problems moving forward.

New TV deal goes into effect soon, which increases the cap significantly every year.

However we gotta see how absurd salary inflation becomes after this year with the cracked out #s

I think the same espically having Cro and Wilson behind it impossible to avoid with the money tied up there. As far as the LB are concerned i really think that gets solved here in this draft DEFinantly with all LB on 1 year deals
