TheJetsStream Just got details on Jets' NT Sione Pouha's 3-year deal: $15 million with $9.5 million in guaranteed money, per source. #nfl Wonder how much against the cap this year. I would assume $3.5 million-ish. That would be a-ok with me. Now I officially like the signing.
If that's the deal it's reasonable and Pouha becomes a real asset to the Jets because he obviously wanted to stay here. That deal is probably well below market.
Thank god its not 21 mil for 3 years... That would have been bad. I would like to see how this effects the cap.
If Pouha was willing to delay gratification a bit the Jets could have him for $355,000 on the 2012 cap. 2012: $355,000 salary 2013: $4.5 Million guarantee, $3 million roster bonus 2014: $4.5 million guarantee, $3 million roster bonus Cap numbers (cost to cut) 2012: $355,000. 2013: $6 million ($9 million to cut) 2014: $9 million ($6 million to cut)
TheJetsStream More details on Jets' NT Sione Pouha's contract: I've been told that he received a $3.5 million signing bonus. (cont). #nfl So his cap hold for this year might literally be a mil? Is this right?
If he got a $3.5 million signing bonus then the minimum cap hit for this season would be $1.521667 million. That's the signing bonus over 3 plus the $355,000 vet minimum.
I could see it playing out like that because the supposedly it didnt affect out cap number this year significantly at all. Im not sure how I feel about such a large number in his 3rd year, but with the cap expansion, hopefully it shouldnt hurt us that much.
all of Tanny's contracts are backloaded. Wouldn't be surprised if his cap hit is less than 1.5 mil this year.
NFL network just put out latest cap numbers for teams. Jets are at 13 mill. I'm guessing this includes the Pouha extension. It was update at noon. http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/03/13/salary-cap-numbers-for-all-32-nfl-teams/?module=HP11_cp
With all this up front money and savings for this years cap we're definitely looking too bring in multiple people. Right now Id hope we go into the draft with Braylon and a Safety, if not id be a bit concerned.
I would love to see Edwards back in green but for the right price and with some assurance on his health. Those are major factors....
Looks like there's still room for those moves, but it is going to be harder to fit in another RT, too.
If the Jets don't get Richardson in the draft, and it's looking more like he'll go earlier (Browns?), Barron definitely could be the Safety they can plug in for the next 5 years.
He's a safe pick but I don't know about his ceiling. He just seems like someone who can contribute, just never wow anyone. I like him but at 16 id rather take a slightly riskier pick at positions of higher need ie OLB WR OL We will see I wouldn't be mad if alot of pass rushers went before us. That being said he's not even top 5 on my wish list
I don't know about Braylon. I want the Jets to sign him, but they haven't made any efforts yet. He's a FA released in season from last year n Jets could have signed him anytime. He's not going back to the bay area, but I doubt he comes here either. We would have heard some contract talks by now. I hope I'm wrong though.
For both players it certainly will be, but I have the feeling both will check out and are on the Jets radar.
