You certainly have to appreciate the fact that they are proactive, and I am not talking about the skin care solution! As fans we saw the same weaknesses that they did in our first preseason game, and to our surprise only a few days have passed and already they are taking action. If their decision making (as far as which players to acquire) is as good as their initiative (knowing when to get things done)... its going to be a pleasure being a Jets fan with them in the front office. Jets | Team looking to bring in a nose tackle Tue, 15 Aug 2006 06:00:11 -0700 Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets made several calls Monday, Aug. 14, looking for nose tackles and are expected to bring some in this week.
If they make a real investment in a nose tackle look for them to try to deal D-Rob in a big deal before the end of camp. You cannot pay somebody what he's making to play half the time. He could well wind up in Dallas for a 2nd round pick.
Derrick Strait is a situational player, I am glad they got what they could for him while his stock was still relatively high. I am afraid of Lee Suggs and his injury riddled past, but hopefully he has met his career quota on boo-boo's and will toughen up for the green and white. I can't beleive how quickly Miami snatched up Dan Wilkinson... I wonder if they wouldn't have signed him this early in the preseason if the Jets hadn't given up 1,000 rushing yards up the middle of their defense in game one of the preseason...
Yeah, Parcells liked him a lot in the 2003 draft. If you look at D-Rob's skills and the results he gets he's basically a solid 2 down tackle. Parcells loves to have guys like that to stop the run with on first and second and then he finds somebody to rush the passer on obvious passing downs. I think he'd go for a second to add that body to his line. whether D-Rob's knee would pass the physical is another question though.
Here are the guys that should have some value to other teams and that we could use as low level trade bait: Brooks Bollinger (better than alot of the other backups out there) Derrick Blaylock (ugh.) Cedric Houston (hate to see him not pan out for us) BJ Askew (we don't need a running FB, we need a blocking FB to make up for a lack of road grader Olinemen and blocking TEs) Justin McCareins (time to face the music mr. I'll catch the next one) Dewayne Robinson (hate to see him go, but he doesn't fit) Doug Jolley (ugh.)
Trading D-rob?!?! Think about the cap ramifications.... In any case its nice to see our FO making moves. Although I would like to have seen our team this week before trying to get a back, trading someone like strait was a great move and we got a guy that, if healthy, can def'n do some positive things for our team. A Nose Tackle would also help our Dline depth (my greatest concern at this point) and give us a better chance to contain the run. Get r done, mangini!
Looks like Dallas is indeed in the market, but not for DRob... maybe McCareins? Cowboys | Team may add receiver through trade Tue, 15 Aug 2006 06:24:46 -0700 Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports the Dallas Cowboys may look to add an experienced wide receiver through trade with WRs Terrell Owens (hamstring), Terry Glenn (feet) and Patrick Crayton (ankle) all injured. Having the team's top three receivers on the depth chart all on the sidelines has revealed the Cowboys' lack of good depth at the position. "We have a few things that people want … we do know that," head coach Bill Parcells said. "… The best chance we would have is to maybe try to get something that we need versus something seemingly other people want. But we're a long way from completing any of that right now."
Montavious Stanley DT 6-2 314 9/10/81 R Louisville How about this guy for JMac? I don't know if he can play NT or not.... just took a quick peak at the Dallas roster. I bet Julius Jones or a Dallas TE ends up in Denver in exchange for Lelie (plus a draft pick if its JJ). Denver has been in the market for a TE.
Doug Jolley can't block a LB, and Oakland embarassed the jets with that trade--Unless Bradway goes to work for another team, we'll have to cut him to lose him. I think Justin M. will be moved soon. I don't think DRob will be traded because of the cap hit, and we're so thin NOW at DT. I think no one other than Terry Bradway would have given Blaylock the huge contract, and no one would take Blaylock now. Mangini is showing he is not afraid to move/bench some of Boobway's mistakes, and JMac, Strait and Co. are finding out.
If you don't think Robertson can play in the 3-4 in New York, why would you think he could play in the 3-4 in Dallas?
I largely agree. Jolley has been disappointing. JMac - I have seen him drop too many in key situations. He is a faster version of Anthony Becht.
DRob isn't going anywhere. If nothing else he can be used as a DE in the 3-4. Besided why would we trade a DT for a DT, at the end of the day we stil have no depth at that position.
Dallas has 3 DT's in camp right now: Jason Ferguson, Thomas Johnson and Montavius Stanley. None of them are wowing the coaches at NT. I don't think D-Rob is a good 3-4 DT but Parcells is going to be reaching in a week or two and D-Rob will probably look like a better option than what he has.
Yeah....They should of drafted Gabe Watson...in the later rounds, when he was still available ??? Jets.....after 2nd round....really out=smarted themselves. THey should have drafted needs...Watson as NT & Max Jean Gilles as Guard.
I thought during the draft the jets should have grabbed Watson--Haven't heard much about 7th rounder Adams from Neb. He was a good value pick then but I would have preferred a space eater like Watson
Let me get this straight... You think Parcells will be willing to give up a 2nd rounder for a guy who he knows full well doesn't fit the 34 scheme?? I wouldn't give you a 2nd rounder for DSlob even if I was running a 43 seeing as how he did jacksh*t in that system as well. Atleast Ferguson has been a 34 NT before in his career and a pretty good one in the late 90s for us. Getting anything more than a 3rd rounder for DRob would be highway robbery. Maybe Herm would do it though
I totally agree with the initial post, it's nice to see that when there is a glaring weakness at a position that the FO actively pursues a solution instead of just standing pat like I was getting used to with Ernie and Bert. They can't seriously address NT, RB and OLB until next season so they will stopgap. Say what you want about them not being prepared for this, but the reality is that rebuilding a team takes stumbling blocks like this, especially with the personnel being new from top to bottom. Some mistakes are going to be made.
