What I would like to see is the Jets allow Pennington to be part of ther OTA's and allow him to go to Courtland this summer. I think with the installation of the new system he would be invaluable. I know at this point, because of his young boys, he doesn't want to be a full time coach. What I don't know is what type of relationships with the Jets.
I don't think you can teach what Chad did. He was a unique talent in the NFL. Nobody has ever had the accuracy he had on the move and that was all mechanics.
They should definitely try and bring him in in some capacity this year. His unique experience with playing QB in NY under Schotty and in Sparano's system is priceless. No one else has that.
Wouldn't it be nice if the front office has enough vision and foresight to make sure that they bring in Chad in some capacity no matter what? It's great publicity to deflect Sanchez detractors, all of the Jets fans love him, not to mention that he can probably do more to help Mark right now than any human alive.
Whether it is as a coach or not, official capacity or not it is good to see Sanchez develop a relationship with Chad. Chad has other things going on so he won't coach. Hopefully, them meeting this year leads to a long term relationship going forward which can be very valuable to Sanchez.
I'd be happier with Chad as an offensive coordinator than as a QB coach. The stuff he did on the field can't be taught after the age of 16 or so.
To a larger point the Jets have done a much better job in recent years of keeping good former players in the fold, which can only help the current players and give veteran free agents a better impression of joining the Jets. As a Dodger fan they've done this for years and overall it's good for an organ-ize-ation.
I hate to ask this but how does Pennington (shell of his former self) rate vs Mark Brunell in the emergency situation department? I'm assuming McElroy could potentially get a shot as the #2 in the event of a Chad signing as a mentor / emergency backup?
Instead of Moore as a consultant I don't see why we could not use Chad in the same capacity. I think Mark has to be given every chance to succeed. This year and next are make or break for him and the team. If he does not show significant progress under the new system is time to go in a different direction.
We know Brunell can take a few hits and according to the coaches he can make all the throws. Chad didn't last three plays the last time he was in a real game and got injured playing pick-up basketball this latest injury. I'd be more comfortable with Brunell right now in an emergency because you need that guy to at least stay in the game.
Exactly what is it about Chad's track record that makes so many here so sure he would be great at coaching? Shouldn't he at least do something to prove himself before he's given a position of real authority?
You mean aside from being hailed as a cerebral QB, with a career 90+ Qb rating? (more right wing talking points, right Dr Goebbles?) And yet he's somehow unworthy of the bottom rung of the offensive staff> Why dont you tell us all, how Cavanaugh is more accomplished in the field than Pennington. OR Schottenheimer for that matter? you are a contrarian joke.
