I think a lot of u are over looking something. Since they gave Sanchez that new contract there going to get him some help a WR. I look for them to go after Vincent Jackson or another deep threat wideout. Plus I also wouldn't be surprised to see them also bring in Braylon Edwards in if he comes cheap. I look for them to address the D in the draft.
Amen. Nicks, Landry and Edwards. I would love to have Mario williams, but not at 12-18 mil per season he's going to require. I'd rather take a chance or two on pass rushers in the draft. Id even be willing to pass on nicks for decastro or Glenn in the 1st and moving up in the 2nd for Barron if he lasts. No point in signing a stud free agent if the pieces aren't in place around him to be successful. We also need a pile mover on our dl to be our haloti ngata type to enable a pass rush.
Edwards will be rediculously cheap. And we're not going to wrap almost $20 million dollars in two receivers. Or wr corps isn't the problem, the turnstile o line is.
Was you watching the same Jets game I was last season? We had and still don't have a deep threat WR. We need one bad to help Sanchez plus also to help Holmes. No I'm not a big Sanchez fan but you do need weapons around you unless your name is Tom Brady.
I agree, but you don't need to spend a fortune for a vertical threat. Vincent Jackson isn't going to do much more for us than Braylon would. People need to stop thinking were going to become a spread offense that stretches the field. We're a dink and dunk ball control offense an that's not going to change. Get used to it. We need Edwards and another rb more than we need Jackson.
Brady has weapons that are entirely suited to Brady's strengths - I am sure they would welcome a deep threat but they do have weapons (WR with 2nd most yds in the league, the TE with most Tds, most yds and highest avg).
Believe it or not Reed wasn't even on the 2000 Ravens. I can only imagine how even more dominant that D would've been with him around.
I think that are problem if we add a few pieces we could become a spread offense. If we had sign Manning don't you think we would had become that spread offense? Plus if Manning did come in we would had to go out and get a deep threat WR if not 2.Yes Sanchez is no where near the player Manning is but Sanchez seems he at his best in the 2min drill which is a spread offense.
No matter what you give Brady it his strength. Any WR that left NE when Brady was QB what did they do? Walker was a good WR before he became Brady WR then he became great.
it's not that they're really suited to his strengths.. it's just that he doesn't really have a weakness. so pretty much everyone you put out there, minus ocho, becomes a weapon. he can do the dink and dunk with welker. he did the step back and launch it at randy moss. he has two entirely different tight ends that he uses. he made deion branch into a weapon and that guy is pretty useless. -- this team does need a new wr. i think everyone knows that, especially the front office. they've spent the past 3 years trying to get the right pieces around sanchez. the moves have rarely worked out.. but they've definitely been trying to surround him with talent by bringing in braylon, lt, holmes, plax, mason, etc. i don't see that pattern changing this year especially after the extension.
With $20M in space Assuming they find another $5M in restructures and perhaps cutting Smith, they can solve a lot of needs before the draft. That's always been Tanny's strategy. Provide flexibility to move up and get the premier guy they want. I would target Landry (S), Edwards (WR), Carey (RT) and Henne (QB). None will break the bank and each solve a glaring need. That leaves one big ticket grab. As much as i would love to have Mario Williams, the smarter play is for Nicks at LG. That provides a dominant LG to sit between Mangold and Brick. with Carey O-line becomes a run blocking force. Get the OLB in the draft. Personally I would love to get Richardson as a RB and then the OLB in the 2nd rd. Then go WR, S and MLB. For Sanchez to thrive we need a dominant run game again. We need to have the team that forces 8 or 9 in the box. Richardson is an AP, Foster, Ray Rice type of back. Impose the run game will on the other team. And make the D so good that we break their will and their backs every 4th qtr. That is a successful off season. With this in mind, they also need to look late in the draft for a blocking TE and a kicker. We have to get automatic 3 points every time they are out there.
there are many needs on this team.... to sit back eating popcorn as the thriller michael jackson waiting for something huge would be sad... AND would be bad for the team. one single guy is not going to fix the problem this team has. btw where did you come from mangold74? i dont ever remember seeing a post by you stand out to me until about 4 days ago, now all of a sudden i am seeing your name on many many posts that i disagree with.
I think you will see Jarrett Johson, Henne, Laurent Robinson, Carey and I also would like to see Lowery back. That would really leave you alot of flexibilty for the draft. None will come cheap except Carey.
Isn't that a given? Wouldn't only mismanaged teams draft the same positions of need that they filled via Free Agency?
Not necessarily. If you pick up older and/or mediocre free agents to plug holes with stop gap players there's no reason to not draft someone at the same position.
These FA signings would be just awful. With Sanchez's big extension theres absolutely 0 reason to be sniffing around Henne. With Hunter's contract now guarenteed theres no reason to sniff around someone like Carey (im still all for upgrading him, but Carey isnt the answer), Landry is a huge injury risk and unless he wants to come here for a minimal trial contract isnt worth it, and Nicks is just a crap ton of cash that wed be wasting on an elite guy. Definitely not a fan of these moves, Braylon I support though
I'm sorry, but there is no way Ducasse is anything but a bona fide bust at this point.. I'd trust any rookie over him. Nicks/DeCastro makes little sense in filling holes but it's gonna be really hard to pass on DeCastro after his combine performance... I'm a big fan of drafting the beastly mid-to-late first round interior lineman (a la Pouncey, Mangold, etc). I'd much rather see the team sign a Safety given the lack of depth in the draft+glaring need. Not signing Nicks would save a whole lotta $
