I think you have to go to #9 to get Richardson or #7 to get Ingram. The cost likely a #1,#3 and #5. I'm a quality over quantity guy so I would give it much consideration.
I'll take option C, neither. If there are three or four rush linebackers available than I dont know why we would trade up for one. As for TRich, he is a luxury pick at 16 so there is even less reason for us to go up and get him, plus the way it is now he could probably fall to 16. I'm a quality over quantity guy as well but neither of those trade scenarios make a lot of sense
I think moving to 7 would be a stretch.I would love getting Ingram though.. if he can be a game changer for years to come then it would always be looked on as a smart move. However this is a deep draft class something we could take advantage of . We could sit tight grab a tackle or Floyd then move up for Curry in the.second. or move up for Barron if he falls out of the first...I love ingram and would love him as a Jet but there is a lot of talent out there and building through.the.draft should be a priority
Can you guys just stop with the overrating of Ingram, its really going overboard. No we're not trading up for anyone, period.
Ingram should collapse at the draft just after they announce Blackmon's pick....appearing to have a heart attack. Then as soon as the Jets get on the clock he should jump up out of the hospital bed and exclaim "Just kidding bitchezzz!". That would be fun.
Ummmm... I don't think people are really out of their minds by thinking Ingram is a top 10 pick. I also could see him going ahead of Coples, I don't believe that is over rating him at all. If teams are questioning Coples it is because of his motor, not ability. If you don't have a quality passion for the game on every single snap, that is going to be a significant red flag. You don't have that with Ingram. Ingram may not be as talented, but he is a very talented kid regardless, who is also very versatile, explosive, and a passionate defensive player. His motor doesn't quit and he is going to be a quality player in this league. It's not always about pure talent. No offense though, Johnny. I like ya buddy but I find it a little odd that you have made a couple posts now about how annoyed you are (my perception) with people over rating Ingram, yet, you are severally over rating Burfict on a consistent basis. IMO People have their own opinions bro, not everyone is going to rate somebody like you do. That's the fun of it.
Trading up is not a good idea - especially for the Jets since they've been trading up for ages. They need to restock the squad, so it would be prudent to look for trading down options (and picking up multiple picks in return.) If they can trade down and still grab the likes of Hightower, that should be the way to go.
I think Ingram is the perfect player for Rex's defense. He can play OLB,DE,ILB and even DT in passing situations. I think you move him around to get a mismatch. I also think he goes ahead of Coples. Coples has alot of "dog" in him
Not a fan of trading up for a RB at all. Top 15 RB picks of last 10 years: 2011 - None 2010 - C.J. Spiller (9), Ryan Mathews (12) 2009 - Knowshon Moreno (12) 2008 - Darren McFadden (4), Jonathan Stewart (13) 2007 - Adrian Peterson (7), Marshawn Lynch (12) 2006 - Reggie Bush (2) 2005 - Ronnie Brown (2), Cedric Benson (4), Cadillac Williams (5) 2004 - None 2003 - None 2002 - William Green (16* did not feel like putting None three times in a row this one was so close) How many of them were ever top five in rushing in a single season? Adrian Peterson (2nd in 2007, 1st in 2008, 5th in 2009) One guy. Out of 11 (or 12 if you count Green). It's not like the others were so close either. Stewart finished 9th once and Mathews finished 10th last year. Oh, and Lynch finished 7th last year (for a team that didn't draft him). I think that's it for top 10 also. Top rushing leaders of 2011 and where they were drafted (in order of most rushing yards): Maurice Jones-Drew, 2nd round, 60th overall Ray Rice, 2nd round, 55th overall Michael Turner, 5th round, 154th overall LeSean McCoy, 2nd round, 53rd overall Arian Foster, undrafted Frank Gore, 3rd round, 65th overall Marshawn Lynch, 1st round, 12th overall Willis McGahee, 1st round, 23rd overall Steven Jackson, 1st round, 24th overall Ryan Mathews, 1st round, 12th overall A top pick is so valuable, but only if used right. Only one runningback in the last 10 years (Peterson) really justified using the pick on him. While 90+% have disappointed their teams and/or are still trying to prove themselves. Top rushers come out of rounds 2 and 3 just as much as they do round 1. I'd rather get a pass rusher or something else harder to get later.
I understand what you're trying to say here, and to a degree I agree with you. But one thing that has been consistent with most of these RBs is injury. So looking at where they place over a season is difficult. Matthews and McFadden were putting up great seasons before going down. I really don't think you can compare any of these running backs to TRich. His physical abilities are comparable to AP and if he slips to #16 (which after the knee scope is definitely a possibility) I would cry if he wasn't in green and white next season
Marshawn Lynch is doing fine in Seattle - and Seattle has been investing heavily on their OL for the past few years. Telltale sign of what was fucking it up in Buffalo, if you ask me. In other words, RB in 1st round is a big no-no unless otherwise you are all set at other positions. Getting OL/DL/OLB (and if there is a stud, S, or a quality thoroughbred, with aging vet on roster, QB) would be the idea.
Dont worry man, I take no offense to your comments at all, Im always up for criticism or questioning. First off Ill get this straight before I say what I want about Ingram, I like the kid a lot, if we ended up with him I wouldn't be disappointed in the slightest. I think in the future he will be a very good player and has the tools to play all over the field. My biggest affliction about Ingram is he doesn't have much of a burst off the line nor does he have that overpowering strength youd want in a OLB/DE. His top end speed is something to be recognized for such a massive player though, I will say that, but I dont think that translates well to his future position (OLB). He should be using his leverage more in his plays but never seems to harness it when you watch his games. His technique also concern me, when you watch him he never really displays that great technique you look for off the snap, I think if teams are going to draft him high thats something he will need to master, maybe that was his USC coaches fault? I dont know. I think this kid needs a lot of coaching, he needs to really refine his game because, while he is versatile, he doesnt really have one area that is overwhelmingly superior to others in this draft. Thats why when I see him getting mocked at 7 or 8 I just cringe because there are players available that can make more of an instant impact. Also, Ill admit, I do overrate Burfict a tiny bit and do shove aside his problems at times because I feel theyre overrated. I just believe that he has all the tools to be an effective and vocal player on the field. During college he was never coached as well as he should of been, Erickson really ruined him by messing with his head on and off the field, yet he still stood out as a great player. With good coaching he could really be an impact player next to Harris on this defense. Many think differently, and I understand that, Its just my personal opinion on Vontaze.
I understand your point on injuries and meant to bring that up. But I think that works against the argument of drafting a RB high because RBs are prone to get injured. Probably more so than any other position but I have zero stats or research to back that up, just pure conjecture. Hard to invest a high first rounder in a position that is often banged up. I would still take Richardson at 16. As you go down the draft picks are worth less and less. I just would strongly advocate obtaining a high first rounder to draft him.
I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to the draft and college players in general, I tend to get my information from here and other sports sites. To me it sounds like this years draft is stocked! so to trade it away for a single player seems ridiculous especially considering the lack of depth and numerous needs. I say a flat NO and in fact I'm more in favor of trading down if possible.
Def not I'm all for trading down the talent pool this year is amazing .. we could trade down and still get 2 starters
Dear Mike, I know you value draft picks about the same as McDonald's Monopoly game pieces, but we need another draft like the one you had in 2006. Remember how you picked up a game changer in Leon Washington in the 4th round that year? You don't need to trade up to find home run hitters. It's time to restock the cupboard with a bunch of young talented guys instead of hoping to hit on a couple of studs while ignoring depth. Sincerely, LTJF
