Pretty good statistics for last season..and he has a TON of upside he's only 26...could solidify our safety spot for 4-5 seasons. Then we can focus on the pass rush to actually make the QB into stupid rushed throws.
There are few teams that have more cap space than Atlanta this offseason, so if theyre not gonna resign this guy, that should be somewhat telling considering how poor their secondary tends to be. Unless of course they go out and blow money on some blockbuster FA (ie MWilliams)
I've had him as a sleeper pick for the Pats for a couple of weeks now. So if you don't mind please SHUT TF UP. :wink: I don't think he's going to be very expensive but I do think it would take $4-5MM/yr and that's not in the Jets budget. Remember even if you are $8MM under the cap right now, you are still going to need $5MM of that for signing your draft pick. AND most teams keep a reserve of about 2MM for signing players during the season because of injuries. So that leaves you with about $1MM to spend in FA. GOOD LUCK!
I think if Tanny really wanted him, he could pull it off. Dont put it past him... He can restructure some contracts and backload the contract. Just bc your a Pats fan and dont want the Jets to sign him doesnt mean its not possible.
jets can easily create 15-20 mil of cap room. its been done before. last year we were over by 25mil. you should know by now pat fan.
If they can "easily" create cap space, why haven't they done anything other than restructure Brick's contract. Cap space will be limited, but DeCoud would be easily signable.
Had no idea he was a free agent. I'd think ATL will do everything in their power to hang onto him, but if not, he's going to come alot cheaper than a name like Griffin or Landry. Sign me up.
Can you find that better FA options that are 1. affordable and 2. just as effective? Pulling foreskins is not the idea here.
because restructuring typically causes more problems in the future (e.g. backloading a contract with some guarantees), i am sure that they have things agreed in principle with players to restructure but there is no point in actually restructuring a contract until there is a need to, i.e. you have a deal with a FA more or less settled, which clearly isnt possible yet.
you dont do it just to do it. you do it when you are going to sign somebody, and know you are going to sign somebody.
I understand this, but when you want to create cap space, restructuring can cause problems with future offseasons as someone else said. I'm just saying that creating cap space isn't as easy as the other person said.
The titans are reportedly going to franchise tag Michael Griffin. This FA safety class looked really good and really deep about a week ago... And now it doesnt, sadly. DeCoud could be our best option.
Somebody needs to say why Atlanta let him go if he is as good as people here are saying he is. It isn't like Atlanta is starting over, they are contenders now so why let him go? Who is his replacement?
