The Redskins have franchised TE Fred Davis, a league source said Friday.

Team sources said last month that there was a good chance that Davis would get franchised, with safety LaRon Landry being the team’s other main option to get the tag.

If Davis and the Redskins are unable to agree to a long-term deal, Davis will earn about $5.4 million during the 2012 season.

Should we go after him? I think anything is better than smith? Will he demand too much? Thoughts

Just say no to players who do so much juice that their muscles detach from their skeletal structure.

    Perhaps for the right price...

He definitely sustained a lot of injuries last season; the last being the achilles tendon. To be honest, I'd rather build through the draft, or young training camp fodder from other teams that fit Rex's scheme.

Id sign Landry to a 1 year 4 million dollar deal with incentives. Low risk but high reward. Then if we does well here we can try and workout an extension. I've heard he is up for this kind of deal

Landry is always hurt but it's him or Reggie Nelson. And this years safety class is weak.

I posted it before as a bit of a joke but actually Dwight Lowery could well come into the equation when it comes to FA safeties.

Tanny mentioned the tadre as a move the didn't work out too well for us. I could see us wanting him back, hopefully he wants to play here as well.

I say yes. Safety is a big gaping hole in our defense right now there isn't much better option.

Better than any safety we currently have on our roster.

If it was a one year, incentive deal, I would be all for it.

Tanny should know better by now to not throw around huge contracts to players that dont deserve it by now....

I didn't realize Lowery was FA, I would welcome him back after seeing his improved safety play in Jax. At least as a stopgap so they only have to spend on one future cover safety.

I wish it was possible to move Revis to FS. Having him back there and calling signals would make the defense sick. He sees the field as good as any player in the league.

I'd love him back but the Jags have like $45 million in cap space and plenty of holes elsewhere, so if they don't sign him back (he can't cost more than $3 million a year. He got $680,00 for last year) then there's got to be something wrong with him.

Best Safety in the free agent class this year. He's not going to come cheap even with his injury problems. I think Rex would like him though. He plays with an intensity that fits what Rex wants from his safeties. The only reason Eric Smith is still in the NFL is because Rex likes that he hits hard. Good fit, but too expensive.
