Have never heard that term for a football player but to say the least, it's not flattering. Casserly said he showed nothing in the drills. Says he may not have a position. Micheal Floyd looking really good at #16

Floyd @ 16 is not my kind of pick

I think we gotta trade down if Floyds our only legit option

IDK wtf "Montone" even means but to me Upshaw isn't to impressive as a pass rusher. Michael Floyd is blah.

I think floyd proved he would be a worthy selection at 16. I think he also proved he wont be there.

My thoughts exactly. where did you hear that OP? possible link to article? it would be great to put the phrase into context.

But Upshaw looked bad in drills today.

If hes that worthy we shouldnt have a hard time trading down with the Ravens/Steelers/49ers/texans so they can have a needed recieving threat.

Bears* would be my guess. They might get anxious if Floyd is still sitting there at 16. its only a 3 spot drop, but an extra 3rd won't hurt us in anyway

If he is basing his opinion off of drills at the combine then that is pretty silly

Don't put too much stock in the combine either up or down. Let the game tape do the talking.

The combine should be a factor in moving people down.

The one real rap on Upshaw is his speed. At 4.77+ he's definitely slow for a LB and very slow for a ROLB. The position drills don't worry me all that much but the fact that Upshaw decided not to run the 40 does. If he's really 4.81 then Casserly is probably right. He'll be too slow to be a 3-4 LB or a 4-3 DE and too small to be a 3-4 DE.

I keep looking at the video of his games at Alabama and he looks like a strong disruptive force lined up outside, with his hand on the ground or standing up. The question is whether that's a product of the system though.

A big concern (with all of these questions being brought up) has to be that with so many great players on the Alabama defense, he may have appeared better than he would have if he were playing on say Missouri or something.

Of course if thats the case, the fact that Upshaw shined should if nothing else speak volumes about his football instincts as compared the other Bama defenders.

What's the context of Casserly's comment?

Monotone is almost always used in regards to speech (e.g., inflection, pitch, volume, etc.)

Was Casserly describing Upshaw as monotone based on Upshaw's interviews? Or was Casserly trying to describe Upshaw's physical assessments analogously to a person's vocal tone?

  13. I like Upshaw but the one concern you have with he and all the other Bama prospects: are they all products of one another?

The 40 yard dash isn't a very good indicator of an OLB's prospects. The cone and shuttle drills and broad jump are much better in showing flexibility, agility, ability to change directions quickly and easily and power. Speaking of power 22 reps is not what I would have expected from a guy that is as big as he is.

Here's the link to his analysis at NFL.com:

I agree. He simply could have peaked already due to his instincts and lower power. If the analysis on the NFL Combine site is anywhere close to accurate, then the Jets should avoid him like the plague. The way he is described there makes him sound like he'd be a better NT prospect if he was 50-60 pounds heavier.

The Jets have so many needs other than WR - RT, OLB,ILB, S

If Floyd is drafted I will be pissed beyond belief.

There is a wealth of free agent WRs this year and virtually no OTs. Pick up a WR or two in free agency and draft an OL or pass rushing LB in the first round.

i heard him say it when they asked who didn't impress or help themselves at the combine. Monotone means one-note, bland, dull...i guess he meant upshaw is one-dimensional and an unexciting prospect
