Im 100% not on board with giving that kind of contract to a 33 year old DT

he was off doing missionary work (I think) and so was drafted later and so has played a lot less than other players his age

perfectly happy for the Jets to give a 3-4 year contract that is not back loaded and is fair for a player of his ability (i.e. a decent vet starter but not a top 10 player)

I wonder how much teams like the Chiefs or the Bills would be willing to pay him. They both have more money to work with, this year and in the future.

That could be a real blow if either of them (or some other team with a hole at NT) decide they are gonna overpay for him.

  5. Pouha was indeed drafted at an older age so he doesn't have quite the mileage. What does concern you is the fact that he already has had one ACL tear(2007). The dilemna is that he really is a good player as well as a very good leader. Do we really want one of the real positive guys leaving after how the year ended? Doesn't send a good message.

I sign him to a 4 year deal w/ a club option after 2. I also consider moving him to DE. Jets talked openly about doing that when asked about Phil Taylor last draft season. W/ Ellis a year in..maybe they bring back that notion. Pouha was experimented with at 34 DE under Mangini, & looked pretty good. Ellis is so big & strong in the middle, it doesn't matter if he has technique yet...he needs to be in the middle of this D.

I think Pouha could get off more blocks at DE and combined with Wilkerson & Ellis would be a really good front 3.

i am sure tanny will structure it so he can be cut in year 3
i am not to concerned about his age since his game is more predicated on power then speed.his strength should hold up a few more years

Putting a lot of faith in a 2nd year DT that's done NOTHING yet and who might get deported in May this year. Got to resign Pouha as the main NT at this point and hopefully get lucky with Ellis

    Gotta re-sign Pouha

He's one dimensional, in that he is a great run stopper but creates little pressure on the QB. However, in a year where the run defense was iffy, the Jets can't afford to lose him. As long as he isn't demanding Revis money, I hope they keep him.

Never know. Even at 33 he was one of the most elite NT's in the NFL. He was a late-bloomer, he doesn't have a ton of experience under his belt. I'd easily give him a 4 year deal.

Who would you have kept, and rather played, over Hunter?

No one, I draft a RT somewhere in the first 3 rds, and boom instant upgrade over last year. Hunter sucks.

Also, regarding Pouha the only number that matters in nfl contracts is the guarantee. 10 mil for him would be a steal.

Hunter was drafted in the first 3 rounds, so there is no guarantee you are going to get anything better than what you already have!

I'd feel better about a three year deal, which is a good time frame for the Jets and given his age. I wonder how important that fourth year will prove in the negotiations.

He's gotta come back, though. I don't see the Jets having much leverage to walk away from Pouha. K Ellis is too much an unknown at this point.

A 3-year deal with the option to dump him in the 3rd year sounds reasonable to me.

This could be a Randy Thomas situation though, where a team with a crying need at NT makes Pouha an offer that is hard for the Jets to match once he hits free agency. It wouldn't be a disaster if that happened because Pouha is a 2 down NT. He's swimming in jello on passing downs.

Yup. There are 8 teams with over 30 million in cap space right now. If any of them decide they want the best run stuffing interior dlineman on the market there's nothing the jets can do.

I assume his agent won't allow him to sign prior to FA.

so if he isn't tagged then who is.......

believe the cost is a 1st rounder, not the 1st and 3rds of previous years.

The Jets cap situation doesn't allow them to tag anyone.
