And it all starts coming together, soon to be champs. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/10715/saving-cap-dollars-for-a-rainy-day
True but this is the difference from Being able to nab a good player and being able to do what the Jets always do. Go for the big fish
I never was really worried with Tanny until this past offseason. I'm not worried about the cap, but I am concerned with him getting the right players in here. He needs to do a better job w/ the draft and Free Agency in 2012.
Sign players this year. Once when the new TV Contract happens the Cap is going to rise up to 250 million apparently which happens in the 2014 season I believe or 2013.
I thought this was already well known? I also still think we're low on cap space considering our needs.
It has been known, but none of us work for the NFL so we werent sure if it was concrete. I was looking at the numbers of every team yesterday and some teams have a lot to spend like the Jaguars (26 Million) and even the Eagles had 10 million to carry over.
Agree that this was suspected Hopefully, this is solid confirmation How much more will they be able to save? (Sanchez, Devito, Ropati, E. Smith B. Moore & Keller, among others, can have their salaries adjusted)
Both posts are on the money. The talent is the concern - not the cap space/money. That is definitely Tanny's strongest point - his money management. His stock is slipping down on picking up talent.
why would they agree to re-adjust their salaries. if they're willing, why not jsut giving everyone a pay cut including the staff and sign peyton, forte, jackon, <insert any other high salary player>, etc?
so we can all agree tanny is great at spending money just not on the right people? Doesn't sound so hard to me
This was already widely known by followers of the NFL and true Jets fans, so let's not present it as some sort of new finding. Tanny was forced to spend under the cap in 2011 because he knew that he had already committed dollars in excess of the cap in 2012, and he knew that he could carry the money over to cover that over-commitment. There was no "looking ahead", no "planning for the future". He was doing what he had to do to be able to meet the contracts that he had already signed. This "news" leaves us in no better place than we were previously. All it means is that we can pay the people we already have, plus a few draft picks.
As mentioned the specifics have NEVER been posted on these forums until this point to my knowledge. And while this was all speculated and assumed (you can go scavenge through the big top free agents thread where it came up) nobody was unsure about the exact specifics and details of this. At least its nice to have confirmed. And as for the people wondering why would any players be willing to take a paycut, well considering the new tv deal is coming in 2014 with an increased salary cap, so restructuring could give them more guaranteed money over a spread out period of time with a larger amount coming after the cap is raised. This would both GUARANTEE them more money, meanwhile giving the team increased cap space to acquire better talent all the while giving everybody a better chance to get a damn ring.
This 1 thousand times over, Tanny can work the cap space as good as anybody in the league what it comes down to is getting talent with some character. At this point the Jets REALLY need some high character locker room guys so we don't get a repeat of 2011 and that's where my worry lies.
