The Jets got a second chance ,not many teams get one chance let alone two in back to back years no less and in order to get to the biggest game of their lives THEY WERE NOT READY! They treated the Patriot playoff game last year as if it were the Superbowl and were not ready for Pitt. They came out flat in the AFC Championship game and guys came out afterwards and said "they were not ready " .
ps it was chaos in the huddle last year on defense during Pitt---go re-read the quotes especially Trevor Pryce.

    Simply amazing.

I think he means he is going to play nose tackle. Obviously he'll come out on passing downs.

Rex kinda throws Pettine under the bus then calls him a terrific coach. Facts are facts. If he is getting more involved, he was not happy. If he got a new OC, he was not happy. Rex, please, stop with all the "terrifics". They make you seem buffonish.

That's a load of crap. You honestly believe Rex and the other coaches didn't plan for Pittsburgh and just pretended they weren't trying to win a superbowl? You act like it should be easy to win a superbowl once you get to the AFC championship. Stop living in the past. We're shifting around our offensive coaches this year for a reason. Rex getting more involved is a good thing. Stop acting like you clowns actually know the business. OMG Rex answered a question!!! OH NOZ WHAT AN ASSHOLE!!! SKY IS FALLING AHHHHHH!

He should kinda put some blame on Pettine because we played entirely too much zone coverage and that's something we did less of in 09 and 10. We are not built to play coverage, our defense is not predicated on sacks. Its a pressure scheme designed to make the other team rush and make mistakes. I think Pettine was way more conservative and he was very predictable. Teams were able to sit back, predict, and pick us apart much better then they were in previous years. That's why players like smith seemed to be routinely exposed. They weren't in the best position to succeed. We will be back next season and I wouldn't be suprised to see more maybin as well. All this negativity is suprising because in spite of all the bs this season, we were still one win away from making the post season again.

This sums up my feelings exactly. He has put unnecessary hype on this team with his mouth.

    Amen to this.

Hopefully we see the product on the field improved.

I don't disagree. I did not think our D was nearly as good as it has been in the past. I just object to Rex's way of talking up the guy he is unhappy with. It just strains his credibiility. He can coach. Bur why listen to anything he has to say?

And you could make the same argument for Jeff Fisher in Tennessee before that went sour. Those are both cases where the owner and the coach have an affinity for each other and the owner had (has) trouble cutting ties when he needs too.

Rex is not in that situation at all in NY. He could have been fired based on off-the-field behavior alone during the last couple of seasons.

Its kinda a no win situation I think. You talk negatively, they don't play hard or you destroy their confidence. If you talk them up then when they underperform, its the pits. Its football tho, so I accept that this shit happens all the time.

My position is that I read the blogs some (not all the posts). But I have stopped watching pre and post and news conferences. Not just Rex. All of it. Everybody either says the SOS, or bloviates like Rex. I may read something about the draft in the papers, but the day to day gruel that they serve up? No thanks.

In 2009 and 2010 he was actively involved. In 2011 he took a step back to a more passive role, overseeing the team. He talked about it in interviews after the season. He indicated then he would not repeat that mistake.

He's always trying to improve as a HC and was probably given advice from someone he respected to take that approach. It didn't work, so he's going back to his own gut instinct.

Seriously? He had so little faith in his approach after the first two seasons that he completely abandoned it for something someone recommended? That's absolutely ridiculous. If he really did that, his ass should've been flying out a window with an anvil in his arms.

    Shut up.

Anyway, he phoned Steve Young and got some advice that he's going to incorporate next season.

    So, we're all good.

    Rex

    Please be quiet
    Keep a poker face
Play your cards close to the vest
Speak softly and carry a big stick
