Bill Belichick is such an asshole

    http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/this-just-in/21174811/pats-sign-de-silvestro-release-wr-underwood

The Patriots announced Saturday that rookie defensive end Alex Silvestro has been signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. In addition, they have released wide receiver Tiquan Underwood.

Silvestro, 23, was originally signed by New England as a rookie free agent out of Rutgers on July 27, 2011 and released on Sept. 3, 2011. He joined the New England practice squad on Sept. 28 and then was signed to the 53-man roster on Dec. 23 and saw action in his first NFL game in the victory over Miami on Dec. 24, registering two assisted tackles. Silvestro, 6-3, 267 pounds, was released on Dec. 29 and signed back to the practice squad on Dec. 31.

Underwood, 24, played in five games for New England in 2011 and caught three passes for 30 yards. Underwood, 6-foot-1, 183 pounds, originally entered the NFL as a seventh round draft choice (253rd overall) by Jacksonville in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. After beginning his rookie season on the practice squad, he joined the 53-man roster and appeared in three games, mainly on special teams. Last season, he played in 10 games and caught eight passes for 111 yards and returned 24 kicks for 561 yards, including a career-long of 53 yards in the season-opener vs. Denver (9/12). He was released by Jacksonville on Aug. 25 and was signed by the Patriots on Aug. 29. Underwood was released by the Patriots on Sept. 3 before being signed back on Nov. 24.

Would be pretty funny if the Giants picked him up and signed him this morning.

Here are Mike Reiss thoughts on this. It's really just a way to get an extra LB in for this game. If the guy had been on the 53 man roster already, Tiquan would have just been inactive for the game. He'll probably be on the sideline for the agme anyway.

    1. This seems harsh to Underwood, who by most accounts is a great kid. At the same time, the move is consistent with how the Patriots have managed their roster all year, making a lot of moves the day before a game based on needs for that contest.

    2. Underwood should be back in 2012, if he wants. This is not a disciplinary based decision, according to a source. The team likes him. Underwood has been the team's third, fourth or fifth receiver this year and has played sparingly (97 snaps in 8 games).

    3. Wouldn't be surprised if this is special teams based for this game. Injured tight end Rob Gronkowski plays in the wedge on special teams and the team might want to lessen his load there, given his high ankle sprain, and Silvestro can step in.

    4. This should mean Chad Ochocinco is active.

    5. In a longer than normal game, one that is also played indoors where things can get hot later in the game because of the crowd, keeping players fresh figures to be important. Silvestro adds depth as part of a possible rotation.

I bet this is the reason:
Gronkowski is a wedge guy on returns. They released Underwood for a DL, and I bet that guy is replacing Gronk for returns today.

Sucks for Underwood, but makes sense to me.

If the Patriots win, does that mean Underwood doesn't get a ring? That would suck... (for him)

He'll get a ring, and probably be on the field and locker room celebrating IF they win today, albeit not in uniform.

Sounds like they plan to sign him back soon after the game.

They probably called him in and told him that they needed his spot and he was gonna be inactive anyway. So be a good soldier and we'll take care of you after. Belichik supposedly really likes this guy.

I agree with this... its a motivational tactic for a guy who was going to be inactive anyway

Doesn't Tiquan Underwood sound like a made up name for a rookie in Madden?

This is also the kid that Brady fought with Bill O'Brien about. Not fighting for the ball on an INT in the endzone on one of his horrible throws.

With a haircut like that, this guy should be thankful he isn't getting beaten over the head with beer bottles.

If you read his tweets Underwood has said a lot of really positive things regarding this. He seems like a good kid and I understand the reasoning assuming it's the Douchekowski injury but it's still pretty cold. Ironically both guys were teammates at Rutgers.
