Okay, thanks. I didn't know that, I just remembered an announcer mentioning Graham also played bball like Gates.
I am a U Miami fan so I saw him play, I had hoped the Jets would take a shot at him in the draft but it was not to be.
As a former Rugby Union second row he should have no problem blocking, after all he will be used to heavy contact with very little padding and no helmet. It wil be very interesting to see what he can do.
Cumberlands coming off a major injury/surgery and Mulligans a worthless sack of shit. And none of our TEs fit the Sparano mold. I highly doubt this is indictaive of anything other than our TEs all blow. That said id be absolutely thrilled if we can trade DK, ill take a 4th+5th for him and revel in it
Good to see there's no limit to the lengths Rex and Tanny will go to solve our locker room problem. Dude's a leader!
It's nice to see that Hayden Smith is being considered by the Jets to join the sport of gridiron, but I believe that all NFL teams need to have a developmental system. If the Jets had a developmental league, I think they should send Hayden to developmental and help him transition to American Football and NFL rules before having him on the main roster.
And I bet he could pull Santonio's arms off like the wings of a fly if he got a little miffed about any L/room antics.
Because the Jets are trying out a guy at TE who has never played organized American football at any level in his life? If anything, this would indicate that Keller's job is safe for the moment.
Logically speaking, the transition into TE is the best role for him on offense. I've always wondered why more rugby players don't try for defense though seeing as they know how to wrap up a tackle and don't just attempt to drop the shoulder. Just because he has the size and can take the hits, it doesn't mean he can get a hang of this game. It's a whole different concept.
Maybe he could be a punter? I know he's not an Aussie rules guy, but he is an aussie? Right? Or maybe he could be a designated FG blocker Or he could be a neck breaker
As a rugby player, there's no sensible reason why he'd be a good blocker. Playing second row he will have spent most of his time binding in the scrum or ruck, something which will see you flagged all day long in the NFL. There's no indication that he'll have reasonable hands as the only time he'll be catching the ball on the rugby field is from the line-out, and these days that's more akin to a tip-off than any kind of football move. I'm not saying he won't have any skills that translate, but this isn't a logical and simple conversion. There are certain positions which might translate well - I can see a lot of high level back row forwards having the ability to switch to linebacker or safety. Second row to TE isn't one that springs to mind.
IDK this is probably nothing more than work out. If they really wanna go for a guy who hasn't played football but has the build we desperately need try Quincy Acy PF from Baylor, 6-6 260, Beast dunks everything but has NO NBA FUTURE AT ALL
