I'm just wondering about the legitimacy of this story now. Initially I dismissed the Daily News article as fodder, but after seeing the picture in the paper (that hit looks eerily similar to the one that ended his season last year) and reading about his delay out of the training room last night, I'm starting to wonder if this isn't one of those cloak and dagger scenarios that Manginni seems to be famous for. Could he really be seriously hurt at this point? This would just suck beyond comprehension.
I am personally skeptical of his report that he was just in the trainers room looking at the stats...
Well thats good to know, I was hoping he really didn't die like 10njets87 said. Where do you think 10nyjets87 got the idea he did die. Just curious!
I doubt he's seriously hurt. I don't think we'd see him on the sideline all game if it was a serious injury. Maybe he was just sore and getting some ice and other treatment after the game. Either way we'll see tomorrow whether he participates in practice or not.
"Jets | Pennington to practice Sunday Sat, 12 Aug 2006 11:23:52 -0700 Tom Rock, of Newsday, reports New York Jets QB Chad Pennington said he will practice in full Sunday, Aug. 13. There was concern that Pennington may have injured his shoulder in the team's preseason opener Friday, Aug. 11." www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl This is what I hope happened. Someone on the staff looked at the replay closer and thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the shoulder because of the severity of the hit. They did some tests and it took about an hour. Everything was fine and instead of getting the media all worked up he said he was reviewing his stats. Mangini probably told him not to talk about this anyway. If he practices tomorrow, then he is ok. If he his not throwing, it is time to start worrying.
Mangini isn't famous for anything yet. You might be a new Jet fan, so I'll tell ya. This is Mangini's first year as a head coach. He is the second youngest coach in NFL history behind John Gruden who was 34 when he first coached. This also is the FIRST game that Mangini has head coached. If you get confused, this is the place to be-the posters here are quite knowledgable. You're welcome.
Rich Cimini....writer...doctor....psychologist....GOD. _________________________________________________________________ Ouch! Chad takes a hit Shoulder watch is on BY RICH CIMINI DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Chad Pennington scrambles early, but later gets pounded, marking first scare for Gang Groan. TAMPA - Chad Pennington's surgically repaired throwing shoulder is an issue. Again. On a play hauntingly similar to last Sept. 25, the day he wrecked his shoulder for the second time, the Jets' hard-luck quarterback may have hurt it again last night when his right arm was hit by a blitzing safety in a 16-3 loss to the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium. Coach Eric Mangini declined to discuss injuries after the game, the preseason opener for both teams, but there were indications that Pennington - in his highly anticipated debut - did something to the shoulder. After the sack, which resulted in a fumble, Pennington went to the sideline and made at least two dozen warmup throws, with members of the Jets' medical staff watching. It seemed like a curious time for an impromptu bullpen session. Later, sitting on the bench, he flexed his arm a few times, as if trying to test the range of motion. Afterward, the Jets went to great lengths to shield Pennington from the media. His clothes were removed from his locker, where reporters had gathered, and were brought to him in the trainer's room. With the team buses waiting for him, Pennington took 45 minutes in the trainer's room before emerging to speak with reporters. Asked if the delay was because he was receiving treatment for an injury, Pennington said, "No, I wasn't getting treatment. I was just kind of looking at the stats and taking my time, to be honest with you." Something as frivolous as reading a stat sheet wouldn't be a reason for holding up an entire team. Clearly, Pennington was up to something behind closed doors. Pennington, who didn't appear to have any shoulder wraps or slings under his sport coat, refused to acknowledge he was hurt. "I did take a few shots . . . but everything worked out fine," he said. What about the warm-up tosses? "I just wanted to go ahead and throw and see how it was after I had taken a shot like that, just to make sure everything was fine - and it was," Pennington said. In his first action since his season-ending shoulder injury, Pennington (9-for-14, 54 yards) played two series, taking at least two hits to the shoulder. The latter came on a safety blitz by Kalvin Pearson, who beat a block by Cedric Houston. Pearson hit Pennington's right arm, and out came the ball. It was eerily reminiscent to the Paul Spicer hit last Sept. 25, when the Jaguars' defensive end yanked Pennington's arm backward as he prepared to throw. As a result, he required surgery for the second time in eight months. "Definitely similar, no doubt," Pennington admitted with a nervous laugh. Pennington was evasive when asked if he expected to be practicing tomorrow when the Jets return to the field. Let the Shoulder Watch begin. Mangini dodged when he was asked if he was nervous about seeing his presumed starter take a shot to his shoulder. "If it were any quarterback, I'd feel exactly the same way," he said. Pennington, who was slated to play only two series, was replaced by rookie Kellen Clemens (10-for-14, 92 yards), who was impressive, leading the team to its only points. Patrick Ramsey (2-for-3, nine yards) handled mop-up duty.
Well if you remember Emerson Boozer, Pete Lammons, Chris Farasopolous, Bob Davis, Al Woodall, Larry Grantham, Eddie Bell, Rich Caster, Al Baker...(I could go on and on) then maybe you've been a Jet fan as long as I. With that said, you wouldn't think I'm that new a Jet fan, would you now? Yes Mangini is a pup, but he certainly has established an auro around this organization in the short time he's here, hence the famous reference. I remember when Gruden was 49er asst coach in 1990, do you?? Not to be rude, but you should think more carefully to who the audience is in this forum, before you make insulting remarks against your fellow poster's football intelligence and knowledge.
From Cimini's blog: http://blogs.nydailynews.com/jets/ August 12, 2006 Cause For Concern About Chad Did the unthinkable happen again to Chad Pennington? REUTERS After what happened during and after last night's game against the Bucs, there's definitely a cause for concern. Pennington took a shot to his surgically repaired throwing shoulder in the second quarter on a safety blitz in which he fumbled. On the sideline, Pennington took about two dozen warm-up tosses, with the medical staff watching. It reminded me of last Sept. 25, when his shoulder was wrecked on the Paul Spicer play. That day, he also soft-tossed on the sideline, and that wasn't a pretty sight. Last night, it got weird after the game. Usually, Pennington showers, dresses and speaks to reporters in front of his locker. This time, he vanished from the locker room. About 30 minutes after the game, the trainer and equipment manager came to Pennington's locker, where his clothes hung. They removed his clothes and took them to him in the trainer's room. Obviously, something was up. The team buses were packed and ready to roll, but still no Pennington. Finally, after 45 minutes, he emerged, fully dressed in a sport coat, and talked to us for a few minutes at his locker. I asked him if he was delayed because he was receiving treatment for an injury. He said he was reading the stat sheet. There's no way Pennington would hold up a traveling party of about 150 people to simply read a stat sheet. He said he didn’t hurt his shoulder again. I remind you that, after the Jacksonville game last Sept. 25, he vowed to play the following week, claiming, "They'll have to cut it off (for me to sit out)."? You know how that turned out. Maybe I'm reading too much into this. Maybe it's just a minor bruise. But, after seeing the look of concern on the faces of Jets officials, my gut tells me it's more than that. As for the game, Chad actually played reasonably well, operating a short-passing game. The running game, sans a healthy Curtis Martin, is going to be an issue. Derrick Blaylock and Cedric Houston didn't shine, but the blocking wasn't all that great. The Jets' starters couldn't even run against the Bucs' backups. I like Kellen Clemens. The kid definitely has poise. He made a great throw to Jerricho Cotchery on the fade, but a defender got his hand in there at the last second and broke it up. The starting defense was solid, but it's hard to give an evaluation, considering QB Chris Simms played only a series. The run defense was creased a couple of times on the second series, giving up some chunks of yardage.
Mine was said as a joke, so here's a little more sarcasm for ya. Enlighten us all as to what else Mangini is famous for? Does he prefer to run the ball and control the clock? Does he go for the win on a fourth and goal, or kick for the tie? I'm really curious to know what else he is famous for. I have never seen him be a head coach before. You obviously think that Boozer has something to do with Mangini, is he gonna sign him and pull him out of retirement? Is Mangini famous for resigning Jets player who havent played in 20 years?
Now Now - let's all play nice here. I am a little testy myself after last night's loss(pun intended). But I am sure we will find much better things to argue as the season goes on : )
:shit: as soon as jeff fisher sees the preseason tapes, the titans will blitz like crazy. i have noodle arm in the death pool. they should 'rotate' him to k.c. for a draft choice.
Man, sounds like me last year. Actually, Chad's arm looked pretty decent last night. I'd just like to see him stay healthy and get stronger.
I have the nut on ignore and I still had to see another one of his perverted posts because someone quoted it in 18. For the love of God, nobody quote him.
