Since everyone has gone in frenzy mode over LTs last comments what the heck I'll do the same. What Mambo would do to fix the Jets WRs/TEs/RBs WRs: Holmes -> 2 options, we cut him or we don't. Let's work under the hypothesis he's not cuttable. Edwards -> Will come back on the cheap and had good chemistry with Mark. Also Holmes liked working with him. A physical WR... Ward -> That's right, Hines Ward. Not much of a football player anymore but he's probably the only guy that can have a positive influence on Holmes. It's a creative way of solving the Holmes problem. Plus we want to be physical on offense and I don't know of any WR more physical than him. He also won't be expensive. Kerley -> Good and young 5th WR -> Draft someone to compete with Turner & Payne. The idea here is "if we can't get rid of Holmes let's at least put him in the best possible position to contribute". Edwards & Ward are tough as nails, Ward has a lot of influence on Holmes and can keep him under control while Edwards has a good relationship with both Holmes and Mark. Kerley is up and coming and in this draft we might be able to find an upgrade to what we currently have behind the "starting 4". TEs: Keller -> As much as I don't like him he is the guy Sanchez has most chemistry with so I guess it would be a smart choice to keep him around for this last year of his contract. Bennett/Chandler/trade for a big TE/draft big TE -> Can we bring in a physical and big TE that Sanchez actually sees in the middle of the field? There are many TEs that could be traded for a 4th/5th rd pick... let's get one in here. Baker/Cumberland/some unknown -> Baker is more of TE/HB/FB while Cumberland is bigger but coming off a major injury. 1 should stick on the roster. Also please no more fucking Mulligan on this team thank you. RBs: Greene -> #1 back. Hillis/Grant/draft -> if we want to be a running team we need a 2nd dependable RB. If Richardson falls in rd 1 it would be the best possible thing that could happen to this franchise. None of these guys will be too expensive (maybe Hillis). Powell/some unknown -> let's have this guy fight for his place on the roster! McKnight -> Oh i guess... QBs: Move some of Sanchez money in easily reachable bonuses in 2013. Even throw in an extra mill or give him a small signing bonus to do it. Shaun Hill -> Not too expensive and a capable backup. McElroy -> Good prospect. Give him a chance to show he has balls on the field and not just on the radio.
Not bad ideas. Certainly realistic and doable. I'm not sure Edwards had a good relationship with Holmes and Sanchez. Edwards was obviously allowed to walk for some reason other than performance and money, so there might have been some lockerroom issues with Braylon as well, not sure. In any case, he can't be worse than what's here.
Why would Edwards come back to the Jets "on the cheap"? I think you are vastly overrating his desire to play with a QB who doesn't throw downfield very much. Why do you think Pitt would give up Ward or that if Ward were a FA, that he'd want to come to the Jets? Why would Sanchez agree to move 2012 money into performance bonuses for 2013? I think he may very well understand that he may not be the starter or even on the Jets in 2013 if he doesn't improve. He may not be a very good QB, but I don't think he's that stoopid.
Pass on Hillis isn't he another diva? This team and division have enough of those with Brady and Holmes
I fully advocate bringing back Braylon for the reasons you stated. However, if that happens, then it's important we find another WR who can contribute immediately because Braylon has been all dinged up and consequently unproductive this season.
Edwards had virtually no takers last off-season as a free agent, had to settle for a one-year, relatively low paying contract, did very little for his team and was unceremoniously cut before the end of the season. Whatever team Braylon goes to next season, I can almost guarantee you he will be going there "on the cheap".
