With Gronk + Hernedez both under their rookie contracts and likely top 5 definitely top 10 tes theyre both due for big paydays in 2 years. While tes arent paid as much as wrs, i see no way they keep both. Is it a done deal Hernandez is out the door in 2 years ?

Id think 5 years 35 million is the ballpark for them with 25m guarenteed. Probably closer to 40m for gronk, and 30m for hernandez tho

Gronk n Hernandez are joined at the hip... Mallet will be the beneficiary of them. :)

    Hopefully

i bet theyre both willing to take paycuts to play with Brady. I would .

how many players go to a shit organization for 1-2 mil extra a yr and never sniff a super bowl.

    plenty.

they seem smart enough to stay with a HOF QB, in a system designed to cater to their strengths.

this is wishful thinking on jets fans behalf.

they dont need anyone other than a shifty route runner (ie Welker) to supplement them.

they can dump good money into TE's knowing their WR's are the epitome of "system players"

Taking a paycut is one thing, but how much of a paycut are they willing to take ?

Ill also add that Brady is going to be 37 when their contracts are up, so unless they are expecting him to play up to age 43 + means theyll be spending at over half their contract with some young no name shit qb not named Brady

And Welker will be long gone by the time their contracts are up.

My best guess is they extend one and franchise tag the other while trying to either trade em or keep the duo together one more year.

Both players are on 4 year contracts. So this thread is speculating on what happens at the end of two more seasons after this one.

    Gronkowski- 4 years $4.44mil
Hernandez- 4 years $3.78 mil (And that is if he reaches all the bonuses in his contract).

A closer look at the four-year deal the rookie signed on Tuesday shows that the tight end will have to work for his money, and prove himself capable of keeping his nose clean to cash in.

The risk, on New England's end, is low. Hernandez received a $200,000 signing bonus, well short of the $508,000 bonus that Chicago's Corey Wootten, taken four picks ahead of Hernandez, reaped in his four-year deal.

Hernandez makes up the money in a series of roster bonuses -- $76,000 in 2010, $90,000 in 2011, $104,000 in 2012 and $118,000 in 2013 -- which are each tied to Hernandez making the 53-man roster, meaning he has to get through each offseason clean to collect. There's also a $24,000 minimum play-time bonus due after this season, and if Hernandez hits that one (and only if he hits that one), he's eligible for workout bonuses of $110,000 (2011), $96,000 (2012) and $82,000 (2013).

He has the standard base salary numbers: $320,000 (2010), $405,000 (2011), $490,000 (2012), $575,000 (2013). If you add up the workout and roster bonuses, then toss in the signing bonus, the total money comes to $700,000. That escalator on the back-end, based on playing time, is worth $1.308 million. That brings the max value of the deal to $3.798 million over the four years.

I think they are a tad overrated, look who they have throwing to them...

Look how medicore the Colts recievers looked without a G.O.A.T. throwing to them.

I agree 1000% theres no way the Pats drafted two top 5 TEs in the same draft, without a doubt they significantly benefit from being in the Pats system + having Brady @ QB.

That said theyre still going to both get mega deals in 2 years, especially the Gronk and I simply dont think theres a prayer in the world of them resigning both.

I think Gronkowski is something truly special, but Hernandez is replaceable.

The way he just runs over people is neither the system nor Brady. Those things assuredly help, but I agree, the guy is just beast.

Gronkowski will probably be franchised or they'll extend a deal to him early and not even allow him to reach the end of his deal. Hernandez they'll be able to give an Ocho Stinko level contract to and keep him there. They both have stated in interviews that they want to continue to play together because there is plenty of BALLZ to go around

They're two years away from being re-upped and Belichick goes with the philosophy, in general, that you don't make decisions until you have to. Gronk was an injury risk coming out of college and Hernandez's value dropped in the draft because he got busted for testing positive for pot (if memory serves right) while he was a Gator. So both of their contracts are pretty team-friendly.

One of the benefits of both guys being TEs is that the salary scale isn't what it would be if they were both WRs. Assuming the Patriots' offense doesn't undergo a major overhaul in the next two seasons, they'll find a way to retain both guys.

Am I the only one who thinks our top priority should be getting someone who can stop TEs? Not just the two the Patriots have, although they are important because they're in our division, but we struggle with any good TE. It's been our Achilles heel on D since Rex has been here and overall we've had good defenses.

I know there are other needs, pass rusher, RT, backup QB, but this to me has to be the #1 priority, whether it's a safety, LB or some kind of hybrid guy, that's what we need first. We would get off the field on a lot more 3rd downs that way.

In a semi-related story, I heard that two local titty bars had a bidding war to get Gronk's pron star friend Bibi to make an appearance Superbowl weekend.
