Farewell Bradford...Mediocrity awaits you. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...b-pending-contract?module=HP11_headline_stack
Rams fans are saying that Sanchez sucks and is in fact worse than how he actually has performed, Schotty having squeezed every last drop out of a terrible QB and turning him mediocre. I'm not going to argue because this coming season will tell the tale. Sanchez may suck shit under Sparano. Bradford might regress even further under Schotty. Or Sanchez will finally live up to his potential. Or Bradford will return to being one of the most promising young QBs. It's going to be a fun season w/ this respect. Which group of Haters will be validated? The Sanchez Haters, the Schotty Haters, Both, or Neither?
If Sanchez sucks then howcome Favre, Pennington, Brees, Rivers all had bad years under Schotteheimer and excelled after leaving him? -Favre took his team to NFC Championship -Pennington leads Dolphins to the playoffs etc.
Brees, Rivers? as QB coach he's getting blame for Brees even though Brees developed into a good QB in SD? Rivers never played in a meaningful game when he was in SD but he gets some blame for him? Favre was in a new system for the 1st time in 16 years and we got him w/ less than a month to go before week 1 plsu we were 8-3 befor Favre start throwing iot to the other team more frequently. Chad was off of TWO shoulder surgeries and he led us to the playoffs. It's going to be funny when Bradford has a good year the excuses you guys make.
Pennington lead the Jets to the playoffs with Shotty and Favre had the Jets in position for a playoff bye before he hurt his arm. Favre was a wildly inconsistent QB his last 5 years in the NFL. His Up and down performance can hardly be blamed on the OC any more than a random sample of years that you pick as your statistical analysis has any cred. Sanchez does suck, the question is will he grow out of sucking with a different mentor and more time along with basic health? He clearly was hurt most of this year.
Since mediocrity will be a significant step forward for the Rams, they'll probably like Schotty, at least initially.
On the one hand, I completely agree that it's insane to criticize the job that Schottenheimer did with Brees. He developed him from a guy who couldn't beat out Doug Flutie to a budding superstar--I find it odd that people assume that Brees accomplished all of this in spite of his coaches, not with their help. On the other hand, I don't expect Bradford to have a great season. It doesn't matter who his offensive coordinator is, I just don't think that Bradford's that good.
Brian Schottenheimer to take Rams' OC job, pending contract http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...b-pending-contract?module=HP11_headline_stack Fantastic news. We'll be able to answer the Sanchez question at the same time the Rams show that Schottenheimer was the major source of our offense problem.
I dont understand your thought process. Your Avatar and Sig are lobbying toward bringing Peyton Manning, but here you are taking up for Sanchez? Come On.....Gucci
Rams fan here. Great forum guys, thanks for letting me join. I'm surprised this thread isn't longer consider the length of Schottenheimers coaching career here and all the controversy that surrounded it. I would be very interested in hearing more opinions on him for obvious reasons. I'd like to clear up also that this move (BS possibly to Rams) hasn't been accepted by all as a good one. Some Ram fans are very skeptical. I for one don't really know what to think. I love that he's had experience in developing and coaching quarterbacks, but it remains up in the air how good he is at doing just that. My main concern is the development and future of our 50 million investment in Sam Bradford obviously. Another concern I have is the questionable play calling. I'm hesitant to judge here because we all know that this is the #1 complaint of all fans on the coordinators. Kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't thing, but then again there are some cut and dry situations of "wtf were you thinking coach" where it's plain as day. Some people think there were a lot of those situations here it seems, others not so much. So what say ye Jets nation? After all you've had a front row view for 6 years of my future OC. Give me some incite. All responses appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
He will drive you nuts, because his biggest problem is how predictable he is against the competition in big games. Sanchez lost his confidence with a half decent OL...Imagine Bradford without a OL. Schotty had: Pennington Favre Sanchez The first two had medicore years with Schotty and their following year Pennington and Favre had the best year of their careers with their new teams. Lets see how Sanchez does.
Predictable as in (ex.) running in short yardage situations a lot, or as in running the same plays out of the same formations?
Don't use this forum or any jets forum to judge him. Is he a great OC? No but he's not bad either which most of the board thinks b/c they need a scapegoat. he's a good OC, one that we made 3 playoff apps w/ including 2 title games w/ a 1st and 2nd yr QB. Our QB regressed(like yours) this year but that had more to do w/ the OL, WRs and the QB himself than it did the OC. My only problem w/ him was that he would use trick plays at bad times, other tha that you have a good OC and I bet you will be a playoff team in '12 or '13.
He obviously is not as bad as we make him here, but we needed change since our offense was stagnant. He can be really creative, but it could be a difficult offense for Bradford to pick up. If Bradford is very accurate he can succeed in the offense, you may get a little frustrated where you think Jackson isn't getting the ball enough though. Schotty has been quick to abandon the run down a score or two even though you can stay in games doing it. I think you should be happy but don't expect a top 10 offense.
It's always fun to read this list w/ no context. Chad: 2006: got Chad pennington after 2 surgeries on throwing shoulder in less than 2 years, we weren't ven sure if he could play in 2006. He kept him upright(no small task) and we won 10 games w/ him. 2007: Chad was hurt again 2008: he was healthy and went to a system he had played in as a rookie w/ the Jets. if we kept him we win the division that year. Favre: in new system for the first time in 17 years, we got him w/ less than a month to go but unlike w/ Miami and Chad he didn't have an old playbook or experience in the system to fall back on. he also wanted to go to Minnesota to stick it to GB, he got his wish a year later and played like a different player- not b/c of the OC. how did Chad do in '09 & '10? Favre in '10? Sanchez helped us get to 2 title games in his first 2 years, he and the rest of the team struggled in year 3. We had a poor OL, medicore run game and mediocre receivers.
@ Poeman (Sorry can't quote yet I don't think) Thanks for the response, and yeah I can imagine Sam without a line. Last year we only had 1 guy (guard Harvey Dahl) remain a constant. @nyjunc Thanks for the response as well, and I love the optimism. Rams nation need some of that haha. Being Bradfords 3rd system in 3 years worries me though.
