Everybody is saying the NFL is now a pass 1st league, but 2 of the 4 teams left in the playoffs are a run 1st teams. So bring back the ground and pound maybe a good idea. Plus the same 2 don't have very good QB. With all that said I still would like to see Peyton as the Jets QB next season. Hell y can't we have both?
I just bumped a post related to this. Yeah its funny that brees and rodgers both lost. Could have been flukey, plus the giants have a pretty good pass offense too
No qb left in the playoffs right now would throw multiple picks into the defensive linebacker's hands in one game
I posted this in the other thread. Four of the last six superbowl champs had top 10 defenses. The first number it the teams overall defense, the second is their pass offense, the third is their rushing offense. 2010 Packers (5th Defense) (5th Passing ) (24th Rushing) 2009 Saints (25th Defense) (4th Passing) (6th Rushing) 2008 Steelers (1st Defense) (17th Passing) (23rd rushing) 2007 Giants (7th Defense) (21st Passing), (4th Rushing) 2006 Colts (21st Defense) (2nd Passing), (18th rushing) 2005 Steelers (4th Defense) (24th passing), (5th Rushing) Three of the last six superbowl winners have had a bad pass offense (ranked 17th or lower!). So you do not need a pass offense to win the Superbowl. Of those teams that didn't have a good pass offense, you will notice they all ranked high on defense (above 7th) and rushing with the exception of the 2008 Steelers which had the #1 defense. The only team that won with a good passing game, a bad defense, and a bad rushing attack was the 2006 Colts.
3 of the 4 teams left are defensive. Yeah Elis elite, but if it wasnt for the Refs the Packers dont touch the endzone (fumble that happend, overturned Packs score a TD, then the Roughing the passer which lead to TD) Pack score 6 points if it wasnt for the refs.
Rodgers Brees Roethlisberger Eli Peyton Roethlisberger Brady Brady Look at those names.... then look at Sanchez
Its not a sanchez comparison. It is a general observation about the league. Also although ben and eli are now top 5-10 qbs they werent considered such during bens first run or elis 2007 run. Eli was particularly bad early in his career.
it took Peyton how long to win his 1st SB? BREES,Brady,,Big Ben,Eli all won there 1st SB because of defense.
True about Ben's first run and Eli's.... but they had amazing defenses. I dont think the Jets defense will ever return to 09 form unfortunately. Our D cant cover up for Sanchez anymore
I disagree. I really believe the Jets will have a great D next season. I think Rex knows he starting to run out of time with this team and he going to do what he does best put a great d together.
Yeah, I think guys like Mo Wilkerson, Marcus Dixon, Kenrick Ellis, and J Westerman will get better as they gain experience. If we can add a passrusher/OLB and a solid cover Safety I think this D will be top 5 ypg as it has been three years in a row.
These stats are very informative. Just looking at this you realize that for a high percent chance of winning the SB you need at least 2 out of the 3 stats in a high category and don't absolutely suck in the last category -- being in the middle on the 3rd is ok. So a high ranking Defense plus either a good rushing attack OR passing attack is good enough for a high percentage shot at the SB. Obviously there's more to it than this, but in general terms it should work. If your QB turns the ball over 6 times in a game and you have a top ranked defense and top ranked rushing offense it might not help.
If the NFL is a heavy pass-first league now it won't be in a few seasons. It's a matter of simple competitive balance. The defensive minds in the NFL will figure out how to make a heavy passing attack a hindrance as well as a benefit for the teams that employ it. The rules will have to keep changing in favor of the passing game every year for it to maintain the same level of dominance after the defenses flush out the things that used to work when real contact was allowed downfield and put in things that are more effective when it is not. Rex's defense this year was using phantom coverages to put more people in parts of the field and give the illusion that the receivers left uncovered had people on them. That's just an example of one way to manage a pass-heavy offense now. You can't chuck people as much and hand-check them down the field so instead you flood certain zones with lots of people, pulling some of them out of places it appeared they were going in the first second of the play.
Rex Ryan might be on to something? My wife might be on to something. She doesn't give a rat's ass about football. Therefore, she doesn't have to suffer being a Jets fan and the Jets fan nightmare scenario of another Giants-Patriots Super Bowl would mean nothing to her.
I disagree about the whole defense will return. The rules are setup for the pass. Defensive players are scared to touch WRs because fear of penalty. 49ers are a good example tho, if they win the Super Bowl teams will copy their blueprint which is defense wins.
Man that hurts:sad: BUT Sanchez can be just as good as them(not Brady or Rodgers) I realized his physical tools are amazing, he can make plays with his feet and has a great arm. If we can get a legit QB Coach to mold him into a better passer then Mark will play better remember its his 3rd year and he's started from day 1 so he's had to learn on the fly Agreed
