1: Just from the way people phrase things, I don't think Rex's power over the organization are quite as strong as it was this past offseason. I'm sure he was in constant consultation, but I don't think Rex has been able to pull any strings this offseason. 2:No, I think he was hired to be an experienced offensive coordinator, which is exactly what he is. I think he was a good hire, and I don't think he should have gotten fired from Miami. 3: Very Doubtful, I mean I would be an idiot if I thought they never gave it any thought, but I really don't think they have lost that much confidence in Rex yet. He is 27 and 21 in the regular season and 4 and 2 in the postseason since he got here, and he has inspired a ton of fans, who would be in an uproar if he got the boot. 4:There are a lot of ways the Jets can meet their needs, but no mater what way they do it we need an upgrade at safety, a pass rush OLB, and a WR. We also need to re-sign some players, including Sione Pouha.
BTW- I never meant to imply that Rex might have been left out of the loop in all these changes. However in all his "its all about me" pressers, he comes across as "the man in charge", I asked a couple of weeks ago, before it all hit the fan, "did the buck stop on Rex's desk, as it pertains to football operations. Does Rex have the final say on the 53 man roster, draft decisions, and/or FA signings? OR does the buck stop on Tanny's desk, or some other mystery man at Florian Park. What has become clear, thus far in this thread, though Rex certainly has influence on all those decisions, no one really knows for sure one way or the other. I find that interesting
I think the players wanted shotty out, as did Rex, along with Tanny and maybe Woody. The pass offense has been bad for a long time, despite a lot of talent at qb and wr over the years. No. Turnaround of what? He hasnt had a losing season yet, and hes probably got the best winning percentage of any jets coach ever still. The only real trouble he is in is the bullshit with holmes. upgrades on the oline. Hopefully slauson and hunter will not start. Upgrades at wr would be nice too. Vet backup qb to push sanchez and hopefully a few young new faces on defense, including some safteys. Hopefully Rex will lay down the law about the bullshit sniping in the press too. I wouldnt mind them trading/cutting holmes just to make a point.
It is probably a Joint effort with Rex evaluating talent and Tanny working the cap. I doubt one dictates to the other.
1) Rex isn't going anywhere anytime soon as long as he's breathing and coaching I think its for the Jets 2) Hell No 3) OH HELL NO 4) Revamped O-Line, 3 New Receivers(Vincent Jackson, Mario Manningham and Mohamed Sanu is my dream), Dual Threat TE, Pass Rusher, 2 New Safety, Matt Cassel as our back up to push Sanchez, if any mixture of those things happen I'll be fine with our off-season
lol Matt Cassel as our backup. The guy made a probowl two years ago, now the Chiefs are just gonna let him walk, and hes gonna take a job as a backup ? Cmon now
We were 8-8 this year, with a couple of close loses that could of gone either way. 10-11 wins with a fixed offensive line, having a legit #2 wr and our #3 having an extra year to learn the offense, and an OC not named Schotty. I dont think any of that is surprising. Hell look at the AFC as a whole, its talent has gone off a cliff these recent years. You got the Pats who will have a top 3 (aging) offense with Brady and Welker getting older yet again with their horrific defense, Texans who nobody will ever take seriously until they prove they dont suck in the playoffs (beating Dalton doesnt count), the entire AFC west thats a joke, then the Ravens/Steelers with whoevers hot being the class of the afc for the next couple of years. So yes if we fix our major problem (the OL), I dont think its too crazy to say we would easily be considered one of the more elite teams in the AFC and a top 2 (afc) favorite to make the superbowl. Not to mention our schedule is a fucking JOKE next year far more than this one, so getting 10 + wins with a better team than this one should be more than doable.
8-8 isnt winning a superbowl but if thats our worst season then REX is the best coach we have ever had. we were almost in the playoffs with alot of lockerroom crap and all kinds of problems most teams would be 4-12 REX is doin a good job and his job is not in jeopardy sanchez is doin fine he will be a ELITE qb in this league it took brees and eli 7 years sanchez is already going into his 4th we can ditch him now not after his worst years hes only going to get better every year
As a Pats fan you have to look at the Jets as the Delta Tau Chi house of the NFL. Rex Ryan AKA Bluto Blutarsky doesn't make any real decisions. Rex does what Tannenbaum AKA Otter tells him to do. In this case Dean Wormer aka Woody Johnson has put both Otter and Bluto on double secret probation with the hire of Soprano, aka Kent Dorfman. Obviously rather than Otter and Blutarsky being undemined by Dorfman, Dorfman is going to really enjoy being a member of Animal House and fit right in with the dysfunctional fun in Jets land.
Now I have seen it all. A Patriots fan expecting to know anything 'for sure' about the operations of a football team. I would have a better chance of finding out the original formula for Coca Cola than I would of finding out 'for sure' the real scope of responsibility within the Pats organization.
1. This is the offense rex wanted three years ago when Schotty was forced on him. I'm sure that Rex told the front office he wanted an OC that was committed to running the ball, protecting the qb, not turning it over and taking chances down the field. 2. I don't think he's being hired a shadow HC but I do think that he will drastically help with the things that Rex doesn't do so well. Discipline, accountability, turnovers, penalties, mental mistakes. Sparano should chance the mental aspect of the offense and when the offense isn't turning it over and doing other dumb sh$t it puts the defense and special teams in a much better position. 3. This was Rex hire all the way. Schotty was not his. 4. Nothing flashy, upgrade right tackle, safety and get some real tight ends in free agency. If they are really going to be a running team then they need guys like Fasano and Health Miller. Guys who are essentially 6th offensive lineman but can also run routes and catch.
First get rid of the perception that the Pats offense is "old", in fact its quite the reverse, with the exceptions of Brady and marginally Welker the Pats offense is quite young, and that "horrific" defense allowed fewer points than the Jets defense, and had more sacks and turnovers. They can just as easily make a similar kind of turnaround the Texans made this year if they get lucky in adding a just a few new players in the draft and FA and get back the players they already have on IR. I know its the dream of every Jet fan to end the nightmare of having the most SUCCESSFUL decade in Jets history only to be completely overshadowed (except for one game  ) by the Pats, but it just "ain't" happening....at least not for the next 4 years.
Obviously, you don't know what you are talking about. Sparano has been an OL coach and a lousy HC. He has never been an OC, and his play-calling experience consists of calling plays in a few games while he was with Parcells in Dallas. This hiring really smells like the "old boy network" at its worse. Sparano was named HC in Miami despite never being more than an OL coach because he was Parcell's buddy. Although he failed there and has absolutely no experience creating an offense and miniscule experience calling plays, he gets the Jets' OC gig again because of his Parcells connection.
I'll be happy to advise you Ken, about that "young" patriot offense led by the 35 year old immobile quarterback after you pay be the thousand dollars you owe me on the bet you welshed on like a worm two seasons ago
So your opinion is that the Patriots are better than the Jets? Holy shit, thanks for the earth shattering insight, ken. Please make sure to post some variant of it over and over and over and over.
I know he hasn't been an offensive coordinator before, I meant general experience. Tony Sparano has a lot of NFL coaching experience where as Brian Schottenheimer does not.
