Even after an 8-8 season, during the playoffs, the Jets are the top news on ESPN and NFL Network. In the old days, no one would even care what the Jets locker room thinks or who the new OC is. Now the Jets have joined those main teams that fans of other teams can't stand (Cowboys, Patriots, Colts, Steelers, Packers).

Now, if only Rex can give the franchise the Super Bowl ring they have wanted since 1970, he could be great. People were talking about how he should be fired for his big talk and delivering an 8-8 season, but if you are Woody Johnson, Rex is doing all you could ask for right now. Its January 11th, the Jets are out of the playoffs, and all over the news.

Yeah, but not like this. They are all over the news, for all the wrong reasons.

This is a very good point. Even if they cut back the talk now they will still be that team. Rex did make the Jets a relevant team. If he can use this media attention to build the team in Cortland next summer the team could be special. Also, I love the hire of Sporano and Haley would be great just to be a disciplinary force on the team.

It might be because there are just some bad match-ups this weekend. The Pats should rape the Broncos. The Ravens should beat Houston pretty easily. The Saints should obliterate the Niners. And GB will not overlook the Giants like they did a few weeks ago, and that game might get ugly, quickly.

The Jets are news because of their coach, the city they play in, and because nothing else is really happening right now, along with the fact that the games this weekend dont look very interesting (on paper, at least)..

Giants are in the play offs and where still getting more attention then them. Might not be for the best reasons but it's just a product of what he built the last couple of years that keeps people hanging on for more.

The Jets are now a national team, we are one of the most talked about teams in the NFL. People want to hear about us win or lose. We are like the Cowboys, even when we are doing bad people want to hear about us. Most teams people stop caring about teams if they lose, look at the colts, they dropped off cliff last season, no one wanted to hear about them.

Its doubtful the Saints will obliterate the Niners. They dont make the west coast trip very well and the niners do have a great defense. It should be close.

Back on topic - in another year or two with Rex we will be the Raiders.

Jets are getting shredded on every national and local sports show and people are happy because they are relevant. Great.

I think that's wishful thinking. I don't think the average fan gives a shit about the Jets right now. Networks like ESPN and NFLN need to fill airtime, and locker room sniping is something to report on. Nothing much else is going on, in terms of news, between the playoff weekends.

Rex is still the man. I hope he's our coach for the next ten years, and wins a couple of championships. He needs to say a little less, and do a little more next season.

There is no right or wrong reasons for media attention. If media is showing attention during play offs, it means you are relevant by all means. Love or hate. People want to see Jets coverage. This I like

KC Joyner had an interesting breakdown of two indicators that might be reason to believe that the 49ers could have the edge in this game.

    1) The Saints are 26-31 during Brees tenure with the Saints (including 8-8 over the past two seasons) when the opposing team scored 20 points or more. The Saints gave up over 20 points or more in six of their eight road games this year, and were 3-3 in those games. The 49ers have scored 20 or more points in all home games this season.

    2) The Saints are 7-25 during Brees' tenure with the Saints when the opposing team scored 20 points or more AND the Saints lost the turnover battle. The 49ers led the league in TO with 38 (tied for #1 in Fumbles recovered with 15, and tied for #3 in INT with 23) and in +/- with a +28. Alex Smith was amongst the league leaders in Bad Decision rating (which measures how few negative results the quarterback causes), with a 1.0, while Drew Brees was in the bottom third, with a 2.9.

In other words, if the Niners score over 20 points, something they have not failed to do at home all season (and have in 14 of their last 16 home games over the past two seasons), and win the +/- battle, the odds of them winning are pretty high given the Saints track record.

I think you've forgotten that this game isn't in New Orleans and New Orleans is significantly worse on the road.

I don't think Jets fans are happy we are getting ripped, but find it ironic how everyone says Rex and Jets need to stop talking and this and that. But when it comes to making a story, everyone uses the Jets and what they say and what is going on. People say they don't care about the Jets, yet they dominate the headlines because people want to see and hear about them. The media hates us yet loves us. Other fans just hate us haha

i know its embarassing i mean it really is.I was watching numbers never lie on ESPN and one guy went on a rant saying the Jets will be 8-8 next year and every year Rex is coach. The media lost respect for the "talent" of the Jets of the 2 previous years

The Mangini era was boring press-wise so Rex was a breath of fresh air in what had previously been a very tight lipped organization. But the negativity towards the Jets really began with the signing of Namath. That initial rookie contract attracted a lot of attention, positive but mostly negative to the point where Frank Ryan, then quarterback of the Cleveland Browns stated, "If that kid is worth $400,000, I'm worth a million."

The Jets fan base has always been solid once it got off the ground. The Jets are in a unique group of teams that have consistently had the backing of their fans even in the worst of times.

Where Rex has failed is in walking the walk. This may be forgiven if in the departure of Schottenheimer, Rex can turn the Jets back into contenders. If so, it will bring criticism of the front office that forced Rex to keep Schottenheimer when he took the helm. If not, then he will be branded a loudmouth full of bluff and bravado and lacking in substance.

the Jets were a joke before Rex came along and turned the defense into a number 1 unit i remember on halloween we played the Packers and Rodgers didnt even through a touchdown we lost 9-0 this teams problems have always been the offense i like the Sprano hiring more and more
