Waiting to see how good a guy is before you write him off?

I mean, I've been of the mind of giving some of these un-proven running backs a shot to see what they can do. Do realize, you have to start somewhere before you are known as a quality player.

Who ever would have thought that Terrell Davis was going to turn out to be a very good back? Granted, he was part of the Denver system, but before that, I remembered him as an unreliable average back when he was at Georgia; not to mention, he did play at Long Beach State before that program was discontinued.

How good was Curtis Martin when he was in college? Curvin Richardson and Billy West were supposedly better players than C-Mart-WRONG!!!

What I'm saying is, we may have the guy to lead us on the roster right now! I known that it is nice to think about what may be better (Chris Brown and Michael Turner), but, give some of these guys a shot during the pre-season and THEN, we can panic- ONLY if need be.

How good was Priest Holmes? He wasn't even able to win his exclusive spot in Baltimore; As far as Chris Brown, what has he really proven? He can break down just as well as any back smaller than he is.

Ironically, who ever made the rule about having to be the alleged protypical running back? 6'1" 225 lbs. The reality is, the top 4 rushers in NFL history are 5'10" and shorter and 210 lbs (prime weight) and lighter! Remember BIG Bo Jackson? He could not take the rigors of the NFL; BIG Herchel Walker wasn't that productive in the NFL.... So, with all of that said, let's give these guys on the roster right now, the opportunity to see what they have before worrying about the alleged GREENER grass on someone else's roster.

I'm with you. A lot of folks jump the gun before we're even out of the gate. This is the time to see what we've got, so PATIENCE here is warranted. Oh, and don't forget: the '07 Draft is just around the corner.

Agreed, but if we had a chance to get Michael Turner for a decent price, you pull the trigger....this guy looks NASTY everytime i see him play

Its not up to us to give them a chance... its up to the coaching staff, if the coaching staff is looking for another answer... well, then I guess they have seen enough. My position is that we should back the coaching staff's decision.

I am trying to look at the fact that they could very well trade for another RB in a positive way... its just unrealistic to keep saying "we" should give the guys we already have a chance. Its not up to us.

Tunrer has looked good ever since that famous (around hre anyway) NIu upset of Marlyand. I knew he was good, but didn't know he'd be this sought after.

Well of course that's true. It's just hypothetical fan opinion counteracting the hypothetical trigger fingers - over everything. If it wasn't up to the CS, there's a good chance "we" would have picked Mr. Hair Gel at #4.

Michael Turner has looked very good from the times that he has gotten a chance; so did Derrick Blaylock (With the Chiefs). I'm not saying that there is a comparison to be made between Blaylock and Turner style-wise; however, there are some similarities when it comes to getting a shot at the starting job on a game in game out basis.

I like to see a running back react when defensive coordinators have time to prepare for them on a week by week basis. It does look like Turner has a lot of upside and he did his thing at NIU; conversely, so did LaShawn Johnson (Led the nation with 1,972 yards rushing in his senior year), and when he got his chance in the league, he wasn't anything special.

I'd rather give these guys a chance before trading and finding out that he MAY be a bust. Deal with what's on the roster right now, and worse case scenario leaves us looking for answers on draft day '07 with a full compliment of draft picks.

By the way, the best case scenario has us picking a running back in the 4th round again in '07, because someone had taken the job by the horns and all we will need is a back-up!
