I know I've been brutally critical of Penny in the past (mainly out of frustration that he couldn't remain healthy and reach his great potential) and many of you have lambasted me mercilessly for it. But I have to say, I have a gut feeling that he's back, and going to be better than ever. He has so much heart and resolve, that you can't help but admire his fortitude in getting himself back at a premier level. From the reports that we've read in this forum, to tv segments, to articles in local papers and the internet, everything seems to point to him getting stronger and performing better each day. Lets just pray he has no setbacks, so we can really see what he can do. I know he has the ability to make players around him better, and that's an intangible that Ramsey and Bollinger might not really posses.
Here's a post I never thought I'd see. You can't help but admire the courage and heart of Pennington. It's amazing that he keeps coming back. I have a good feeling about how he'll play this year as well, but I don't know if he can hold up. That being said, he deserves to stay healthy as hard as he works.
Pray he doesn't get hit this year. Particularly on his blindside. He doesn't react well to getting hit.
Which would make you happier? Pennington returning to 2002 form or Pennington failing once again? I really don't know which you would choose.
If Pennington returns to 2002 form, we'd have the best QB in the league... so that would be awesome. But I'd be happy with Penny making good decisions and staying unhurt.
Why would any Jet fan be happy if Chad "fails?" So we can see Ramsey in there, throw the ball hard, and have it wind up 20 yards over the receiver's head? I just want him to stay healthy and build the arm strength back up. I have no expectations for wins, but at least stay healthy. Actually the team needs to be healthy. Oh that's right. Pouha and Posicak are finished and who knows about Martin.
I just wrote that because he never says anything good about Chad. So I am not sure which he would want. He would probably enjoy getting rid of Chad.
Need not worry by the time we are ready to challange for a SB (hopefully) CP & many others on this 06 team will be gone
Myself, I can't blame anyone for being critical and losing faith in Chad at this point. I don't think CMan is so jaded that he'd just hate Penny just because. I think he may just be going on the "I'll believe it when I see it" principle. I'm encouraged by his (Penny's) progress, but to be honest I'm not glowing about our prospects. A young/weak OL with an injury plagued QB is not the stuff dreams are made of. It has disaster written all over it.
Nice post, I'm also in that I'll believe it when I see it mode. Nothing would make me happier to see Chad burst back on the seen, play 16 games of 2002 type of QB play. I just still have a hard time believing it with all he has been through. Everytime he gets hit I'll be holding my breath. Well it all starts tonight, my fingers are crossed....
I see. Anyone remember the Minn pre-season game last year? Chad was on that night and we were all pumped up. Then the season began and we all know what happened. So I need to see Chad produce in the regular season to believe. Lord knows I want Chad to be the greatest QB here since Namath. But a twice torn rotator cuff is a daunting task for a QB to come back from.
I hear what you're saying, but Mangold and Brick have the talent to be stable, and with the right coaching, might suprise us. We hope
I feel good with Kendall and Moore and I think Jones will really emerge this year. By the season's end, I think we'll be happy with the o-line. I just hope their inexperience doesn't result in sacks and injuries early on.
I remember that game. I was so pumped after seeing him, and thought we were headed to a division title
True, but they are rookies still. I would not expect things to really solidify for them sooner than mid-season at best. It is going to take some time to get it right.
Well said bammf. I would guess deep-down most folks would want to see him come back and do great. It would make for a great Jets story down the road.
The good thing is I think O-linemen pick things up pretty faster than other positions though. Faster than almost any defensive position. Technique will come in time, but the raw tools have to be there. That's how they'll have to get by early on.
