Let's pretend that you have an opportunity to give 3 gifts to three individuals associated with the Jets. What are you giving them and why? I'm giving out a couple of books and an over the counter product. Rex, you lost the pulse of the team this year and had at least one player pulling the team in different directions. You talked and talked and talked, and your own team didn't even seem to be listening. I'm giving you this book not because of the religious overtones. I'm giving you this book so that you can read how Dungy looks at things from at a deeper level and learns and teaches valuable life lessons. There were plenty to be learned from this season. Sanchez, you have the potential to be the best QB this franchise has ever seen. My biggest critique of your play to date though is that you don't seem to be learning simple situational football. You absolutely must learn when to take risks, and when not to, among other situational things. Here's a book on situational football for you to study in the offseason. Mayhem, I love the ability you showed us to get to the passer this year. If you could only stay on the field as a 3 down linebacker you may be able to rack up big sack numbers for us. I don't think that will ever happen if you don't put some weight on though.
To Jimmy Leonhard, I give the gift that will help him once and for all become an elite safety in the NFL. To Brian Schottenheimer, I buy first class Greyhound tickets to the great city of Jacksonville, Florida. To Wayne Hunter, I bestow a lifetime supply of subway tokens, so he may walk in and out of the turnstyles at will and treat himself to the same performance we were gifted with for the majority of the 2011 season.
I agree with the Sanchez gift/comment. I think he needs to learn when its time to give up on a play and just throw the ball away. Sometimes I think he lets his doubters get to him and tries to "force" things that aren't there and they result in turnovers and undoubtedly kill his confidence. Even watching tebow yesterday, he is a pretty bad QB in all honesty and has a tremendous offensive line which he benefits from. But the kid knows when to make decisions and knows when its best to just "throw it away". On the roll out play when the broncos were driving to go up by 3 scores he made the smart choice and threw the ball into the stands. Alot of fans could be frustrated by settling for the field goal there, but Tebow made the right choice.
