well said! Right there is all the proof you need. I wonder if any of you played organized, hs or college sports and had a guy that stunk it up. How did you "really feel" when he was killing the team and you were losing. Were you pissed as all hell because you gave "your" all or accepted being labeled a loser because he was a teammate.
When Tone started acting out, Mark should have quietly told him, " love ya man, but pull you shit together or go sit your ass down, and made it happen. When in a huddle, no one should be talking but the QB, unless he ask another player a question. If anyone else has something to say not related to plays, the QB's reply should be, " shut the fuck up, we will discuss this when we get back to the sidelines.... Again, Mark's problems have nothing to do with his leadership, it has to do with the flaws in his play ( which have been talked about to death) that he has not be able to overcome They say he played hurt the last month and a half, okay, he has the whole offsesason to heal. When training camp comes around, make him show he deserves the starters role and don't just give it to him......
Terry Bradshaw was in this position on the Steelers until 1974. On the other hand that locker room was all leaders and no followers, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
I don't really understand this thread, for the most part. Sanchez didn't exactly regress, but he didn't play much better than last year. In fact you can say it was a lateral progression, which isn't really a progression at all. You can look at stats if you want and see the little waves of improvement there, but honestly he just never looked great this year. It's definitely the jump he should have had, and Mike Tannenbaum has said it already that Sanchez didn't play well this year. You can fight it all you want, but the GM of our team wasn't pleased with Sanchez's play this year, and not pleased with his progression. Not every ex-teammate or 2nd hand source is BS. Let's be honest, would YOU respect someone who was a whiny primadonna and or playing like crap all year turning the ball over? It's not farfetched to think that Holmes and Sanchez could never get control of the locker room because they both had glaring flaws in their leadership traits. Holmes needs to be lead, not leading and Sanchez needs to learn how to lead by example. We have a whole offseason to get better as a team and hopefully find a new coordinator, but the fact of the matter is that we're still behind the ball because of our team chemistry. We can only hope for the best going into next year. I expect that we win 10-11 games if Sanchez makes the jump and if the chemistry settles like it was back in 09.
McElroy's claims are 100% true, nobody can refute them. I think some guys have indirectly defended Sanchez, I think they are remaining quiet because they don't want to throw more gasoline on the fire. Does anybody really believe that the 'character guys' on this team believe that Sanchez can't get them back to the AFC CG or a Super Bowl ? For God's Sake, he did the first 2 years and his numbers were BETTER this year. It's not that Sanchez killed the Jets this year so much as the rest of the team regressed a ton.
How about Sanchez showing leadership in the offseason with the West Coast Workouts and Holmes not showing up ? How about Sanchez showing leadership with an offense-only players meeting and Holmes acting like a prick and saying "what am I here for ? why am I wasting my time ?" ???? Yeah, that's a guy I want in the foxhole with me.
Doesn't seem like a lack of effort on Sanchez' part to be a leader. Seems more like the players just aren't taking to him as one.
Sanchez looked depressed or frustrated walking on the field every time after getting sacked or got hit few times. He just lost the interest and wants to get over the game fast.
Again....the reason for this thread.....NOT 'THE PLAYERS' OR 'ALL OF THE PLAYERS' OR 'MOST OF THE PLAYERS' Just 1 or 2 or 3 guys at most. Out of 53. It got lost in the disappointment of the AFC CG loss, but Holmes throwing Schotty under the bus after we lost was very telling. This guy is NEVER happy, even after he caught his game-winning SB catch.
I admit at times his body language wasn't the best but again....he didn't lash out at his OL or WR's or anybody. Something to be corrected but that wasn't the problem in 2011.
I'm not disputing McElroy's claims or trying to say that Sanchez is the problem and can't win. I'm saying that Rex lost the team this year and needs to get his fat ass in gear and demand accountability and quit being such a pussy with his players and wanting to be their friends. He's the HC and he needs to act like it.
You hit the nail on the head. Rex has been untouchable around here, lets blame Shotty! Neither LT or Sanchez are leaders...never have been, never will be!
Forget about the hotseat BS - he ain't going nowhere!!! Bank on it. You really think after leading the team to 2 straight AFC championships Woody's just going threaten his a$$ for a 500 season? Comon , get real.
Where do you get that number from? How do you know that? You don't. You're pulling it out of your ass. A quote from Derrickk Mason on Sanchez: "If you can't do it vocally, guys respect it more if you lead by example, and he was so up and down that guys wouldn't listen to him. Had his play been superior as it was the year before, and the year before that, when he helped lead the team to an AFC Championship Game, then guys would have really listened to him." He says, "guys". Read the quote. It's quite obvious he means more than 1-3. 1-3 would not have been an issue unless it's the 3 starting wideouts. Do you really think that was it? He also said that he never saw any problems between Holmes and Mark while he was there, meaning their issue occurred later. The Holmes issue certainly exacerbates the problem though. Mason says a lot of really nice things about Sanchez and the Jets. He doesn't hatchet anyone. It's a very even keel interview, which would indicate he's not spouting nonsense because he's butt hurt. Just because you want Mark to be viewed as a locker room leader, doesn't mean he is.
I am in total agreement....either Rex didn't know about the problems in the lockerrom (when every Jet fan and media guy did) or didn't care. If I am Woody Johnson, that would disturb me a ton. BTW, his father lost his job in Philly for the same reason.
I said he wouldn't. Let me ask you point-straight: assume you own an NFL team. Now, your coach sees a major problem with your WR's, QB, and OC for 2 weeks earlier in the year....and the same problem sinks your season from 8-5 to 8-8 to finish the year......and then, on your way out the door, you say you had no idea the locker room was so toxic. As an owner, are you happy ?????
It could be larger, I am just saying it appears very small. No fooling....I'm sure if he played like Brady or Manning or Montana and/or had a QB rating of 90+ that guys would 'listen' more. And maybe -- though probably not if he didn't get his catches -- Holmes would have been less of a prick. But what is the converse: that if Sanchez only is a middle-of-the-pack QB, with a rating of 80 or so, that the 'cancers' won't listen to him ?? How about the 'cancers' STFU and give 100% and play hard and pay attention and sacrifice for the team whether the QB is an All-Pro or if he sucks ? They are getting paid big buck$$$$ you know !!! Then the problem was Burress ? Something happened in Weeks 4 and 5 that necessitated Mason being shipped out. Or Rex and MT made a major miscalculation. I agree....makes you wonder what would have happened had we kept him. I'm saying that aside from a Super Bowl winning QB or an All-Pro cabliber QB, it's tough to be a 'leader' when you have 2 years in the league. Without knowing about their skill levels, which scenario is more plausible: a 3rd-year QB leading guys with 8-10 years of experience....or an 8th-year QB leading guys with 1-4 years of experience ???
And Tone will promptly yell "FUCK YOU" right back and continue to act like the primadonna prick he is. I wouldn't be surprised if Mark tried this(what you said) and the above happened. Why can't people accept that Holmes NEVER LIKED Mark Sanchez from the day he was traded here? You never heard this whiny shit coming from Braylon, did you? Jets Brass got rid of the WRONG WR and was instead blinded by the bling of Holmes SuperBowl Ring. Braylon may not have been more talented(still debatable, IMO) than Holmes but he was the RIGHT Wide-Receiver for a Young QB starting out his career in the NFL. Look at Matthew Stafford and Megatron, for example.
