http://espn.go.com/college-football...es-penn-state-nittany-lions-coach-sources-say New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to become the coach at Penn State Nittany Lions, according to sources. The Nittany Lions plan to make the move official with an announcement Saturday, the sources said. Terms of the deal are unknown.
Great signing for PSU. Patriots OC's have a GREAT track record of success once they leave the recording industry. Oh wait... *sigh*
This guys is a bit different. Most Pats coaches come up through the system, O'Brien coached almost exclusively in the college ranks before taking a job with the Pats in 2007.
it just seemed like strange timing for a guy going into a playoff game next week to just up and leave. penn state is a big job though so i guess it makes sense he would jump. it will be interesting to see how this affects the patsies offense next week. these guys sure dont last long in patsy land... february 2011 to january 2012
he isn't leaving until the Patriots season ends, it was in the linked article. They are probably just announcing it in hopes some recruits don't commit elsewhere in the next 2-6 weeks.
ok they updated the article since i read it. i copy/pasted the entire article as it was posted when i posted the op. its gonna be a tough job recruiting and setting up a staff while coaching... signing day is 2-1... yeah hes fucked for this year.
yeah, they probably were no matter who they chose. What will be interesting will be to see if any of the good In-state kids decide to go to PSU, I doubt any top out of state guys have any interest.
Sources say Patriots OC will become new Penn St. Head Coach http://espn.go.com/college-football...es-penn-state-nittany-lions-coach-sources-say
Peculiar choice to say the least. 1 year as an OC, no head coaching experience whatsoever, his only qualification seems to be "not connected to PSU in any way" This sort of hire worked out well with Ed Orgeron, Charlie Weis, Mike Shula, etc.
haha...Lavar Arrington is pissed about this.. http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...n-slightly-miffed-over-obrien-hiring/related/ ... ... ... Arrington went even further in an interview with BlueWhiteIllustrated.com, making it perfectly clear that a big reason for his reaction is that his allegiances lie with the interim head coach of the Nittany Lions. “I will put my Butkus (Award) in storage. I will put my Alamo Bowl MVP trophy in storage,” Arrington told the website this morning. “Jerseys, anything Penn State, in storage. Wherever Tom Bradley goes, that’s the school I will start to put memorabilia up in my home. I’m done. I’m done with Penn State. If they’re done with us, I’m done with them. …

Patriots have gotten permition from the Rams to speak with McDaniels about the open OC position. Would not be surprised if they got him in right away to work with O'Brien who may be spread a bit thin, then take over after the playoffs. Weiss had no problem the year he took the ND job, the Pats won the SB, but O'Brien is stepping into a hornets nest down there!
