I looked at some of those posts too.... makes our sorry bunch of know-nothings look like freakin Einstein's. (I include myself less anyone be offended)A top five pick, or Vilma for a backup RB? I think the gange must be much better in southern Cal than it is here.... a lot more smokers, too! :breakdance:
Not starting, a duo. But not those 2, I'd much prefer a blaylock/washington or houston/washington duo, than a blaylock/houston duo.
Well...let me tell you, since I live here in So Cal....the ganja is amazing! Unfortunately I live with a bunch of Charger and Raider fans who are delusional to the last drop. Lol..one of them said that they might make the trade in "January" but not during TC. Amazing!
Turner would be a great option, but are we all that pessimistic about what we have now with Houston, Blaylock, and Washington that they don't even get a chance to prove themself?? I think we should stay put and see what our current backs can do. With a mid first round pick next year we will have the opportunity to take a feature back. Next years draft has some real rb talent coming out. Everyone knows about adrian peterson, but who i personally like is Michael Bush from Louisville. Other backs that will be available along with Peterson, and Bush are Marshawn Lynch from Cal, Chauncy Washington from USC and Kenny Irons from Auburn. Without a doubt we will be able to land one of these in the '07 draft. Therefore we should sit tight, see what Houston and Washington can do and then get Bush next year. Some of you guys wanted Bush on the team, you will have to wait a year for your wish.
idk i think bush is to big, but i havent watched him alot. when i see a 6'3 rb i just think hes gonna run to tall and get leveled, especially in the pros. i like lynchs size and athletic ability the most.
Bush is a BEAST. I think he can be better than Adrian Peterson. But isn't Louisville football in Big East, so you should try to catch a game and take a closer look.
The Turner trade rumor is just as talked about here in Chargerville as well. The only problem is: it just isn't happening. LT is a great back. But he also has a great back up in Turner, just as Martin had Jordan for the Jets. He's untouchable unless the Jets are willing to give something that AJ wants and that would be some high picks in next years draft since AJ does build his team through the draft and not through the Free Agency market that much. One player that we are definitely putting out for in a trade is Donnie Edwards. It is strongly rumored that the Saints want him for a 4th round pick, but AJ wants a minimal 3rd for his services. :chargers: <-------------what?
Heres some hard truth for those who think that Michael Turner is untouchable. He was a fifth round pick three years ago. Hes not touched the football too much in that time. And the guy ahead of him on the depth chart is almost certainly the best player in the NFL. The fact that he has shown some ability negates his draft status to some extent, but at the same time, very little has changed since he was drafted. If I were in Tennenbaums shoes, Id consider trading McCareins for Turner. The Chargers need help at wide receiver. The Jets need a halfback. McCareins is in Manginis doghouse, and Turner is stuck on the bench and rapidly approaching free agency. If anything I think the Jets might be giving up too much there, but if thats what it takes, I wouldnt complain. With or without Curtis Martin, Turner would be a nice addition to the backfield, and I think that wed still have a pretty nice group of receivers without McCareins (Coles and Cotchery starting, Dwight Smith and Newhouse filling out the roster).
Agreed, Stu. McCardell is VERY long in the tooth. the other SD WR's have much to prove. I don't think that would work straight up, but throw in a pick and it might fly. The problem is the SD FO.... AJ Smith is his name, I think. He wants a second round pick for Donnie Edwards in his walk year. Not very reasonable. I wonder if as much as Houston, McCariens and a 4th rounder would be enough.... this guy Smith is a tool. Instead of trading Brees, he screwed that all up and lost him to FA instead. He's Bradway, but considerably more stupid.
I was thinking the same exact thing. Why not trade him ? There is no way hes going to come back and be a back-up for those guys. If he thinks letting him go to free agency after this season is a viable option. Then hes a giant asshole.
Let's face it! We are going to be lucky to be 5-11 or 6-10 this year. IMO we should be very careful about trading. Will bring in a RB make us a contenders? Can the best RB in the league win us many more then 6 games? Let's go with what we got. Address the RB in next years Draft! :jets:
I'd be all for aquiring Turner for just about anything but either of our 2nd's. The kid has upside unlike any of the backs on our roster. Hopefully in the negotiations we can use the Lamont Jordan story to sway AJ Smith. I don't think it will get done but if it does it will give us alot more flexibility going into next years draft.
I'm all for seeing what we have within our current roster but for the most part all are small shifty backs but can be tackled with one arm. Houston seems to have a good combination of speed and power but thanks to Herm we saw very little of what he can do. And he did have a fumble in those reps. Basically, we need our run game to be respected for the passing game to be effective especially if Chad is at the helm. Do our RB's make other teams worry, probably not. If none of them show up in preseason or the first few games then we have to go out and get a feature back. Screw that mentality that we're only going to win 4-5-6 games this year...Mangini is going to try to win every game. We're going to win games which on paper we shouldn't and we're going to lose games that we shouldn't.
For those of you who want to see Turner, this highlight video has most of Turner's carries from '06. He didn't get a ton of carries but he had a lot of nice ones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJQY18MWi6k
bump After todays game, its apparent we need a running back. I'm not a pessimist but blaylock couldnt shake a rattle. and houston is just average. We need a back. Plain and simple. Neither of these running backs are going to help us.
exactly. this is one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet. while next year's draft will be good for RB's, i'm not fond of spending an early pick on a position with the shortest shelf-life in the NFL. if Turner plays to his potential, that's one less position to address next year; with the OL taking shape and a a future QB (so we hope) in Clemens, along with a RB, we can take the best player available, which often pays off more than drafting a rookie to fill a big position of need (barring exceptions). McCareins and a pick (not R2) would be okay in my book. let Turner get some carries this year while the OL gels, thereby building a foundation for a rebuilding team. cheers
make sure you watch the chagers vs packers game tonight because turner will start for them. he was a beast in last years preseason with over 220yds on 25 carries (8.9ypc). yes it was only preseason but you dont see our guys rush for that many yds. they could rush for 220yds on 220 carries but thats not what we're looking for i guess.
