if we can retool the o-line and sign some quality offensive weapons, I don't see why manning wouldn't consider the jets as a serious possibility. but in no way shape or form am I giving up on Sanchez.
If Manning were to become a free agent, then I would think we would be involved. Not that I agree, but releasing Sanchez outright saves almost 10 mill on the cap, and he's young enough that we could probibly trade him as well. Peyton would certainly want to come here, especially if Tom Moore becomes our new OC, and with Wayne/Garcon as free agents he might take one of them with him.
I'm sorry that we want to try and improve the team. Sanchez is going into his 4th season with not many improvements to say the least and I was and still am a Sanchez fan.
I don't consider the Jets to be a "championship caliber team." The 49ers are the only championship-caliber team that could really use a top-flight quarterback. However, the Titans, Raiders (if they correctly view Carson Palmer as a sunk cost), the Chiefs and Seahawks are teams on a similar tier that could use a quarterback. All four teams (once Jamal Charles returns) would provide Manning a much better running back to play with, comparable receivers (especially if Holmes is as good as gone) and are all on the upswing. Add the Broncos to the list if Elway and crew aren't sold on the Tebow. The fact of the matter is that the Jets can't legitimately claim to be a "power" team, so there is nothing to distinguish themselves positively from a bunch of other teams...many of which are getting better, while the Jets appear to be going in the wrong direction. It's not impossible, but I'd be awfully surprised if Manning chose, on the free agent market, the Jets.
You know what guys? This team has practically been selling its soul for a championship by cutting corners and picking up guys with questionable personalities (see Favre, Holmes, Braylon, Plax, Cro). Remember when we used to pick up class acts like Chrebet and Curtis Martin and got rid of headcases like Keyshawn? Those Jets I liked so much more...they were better teams too.
