Well GangGreen, Lets take a deep breath and assess where we are and of course, what needs to change. First, upon looking at the season and TEAM as a whole for the season, I think it is shortsighted and unreasonable to shoulder the blame on any one individual as the reason for our mediocrity this season. Football is a TEAM sport, in which every player, component, squad and coordinators must have a vision, and that vision needs to be shared by all. It seem to me that the team is 'fragmented', there is no obvious cohesiveness whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, I think that to blame Sanchez, or Shotty, or any one player is ridiculous. I have been called a Sanchez apologist before, and I accept that. The thing is, I think we have someone with talent, who has shown growth(yes he makes silly mistakes) but with mixed signals from the OC staff, handcuffs, and a very POOR O-LINE, a guy can't correct all that as he is still developing, I could go on and on about this, but I think you get the Tenet of my view. I think Shotty has talent, but at this point clearly is not on the same page with the offense as a whole, Callahan, nor Rex, and I think he has been given ample opportunity to tie it together. In essence I don't think WHOLESALE DRAMATIC CHANGES, WITH KNEE JERK REACTIONS as the reason is the answer. Look , lets put it in perspective, the JETS went to the AFC championship game two years in a row, followed by a .500 season. Teams don't go to the Superbowl JUST LIKE THAT. It takes realistically, at least 3-5 years of building with cohesive philosophy, and not changing the pieces all the time. Keep The Core, address the glaring weaknesses that need immediate attention, and stay the course. I would like to see the team move in the following Direction; Utilize Tom Moore, and or Callahan in the offensive philosophy, however they choose to implement that. As far as Shotty, he can be an asset, yet if he goes, he goes... Rex has created a culture here that still has the potential to grow. Is he a bigmouth, yes, does he try to breed confidence into this team YES, He deserves another stab or two. He also need to INVOLVE himself more in the offensive schemes and philosophy, and not just parse it out to Shotty and Company, i.e If he says he wants to learn and do better as a coach, then involve yourself in all phases of the game, and have a strong say, presence within that arena. Finally, it was a unsuccessful playoff, Superbowl campaign, so instead of bitching and crying , we do what anyone or any entity does to be successful,; learn, leave behind, look forward, and grow.... It's on the ORGANIZATION to implement this, not just Sanchez, Shotty, or Rex, It's on EVERY one..... Heres to next season, with all the hope I instill into each new campaign!
Unfortunately, the "core" of this team isn't very large. What's the core, Harris, Revis, Mangold, and Brick? Who else would you throw in that category?
We arent far off from being a playoff team imo. Im actually scared though because it seems like teams like the Titans, Dolphins, Bills, Bengals, Texans, are ALL on the rise. Bottom line next season we need to execute.
I don't know that I'd put D'Brick in the category for sure any more. He got beat a fair amount this season and the pressure came from both sides on Sanchez. I also think you have to put Sanchez at the core because if he needs to be replaced then the Jets are in close to full rebuild mode. That's just what it is.
I agree. The "core" is the group of players that the team is attempting to build around, not just the elite players. Mark Sanchez and Shonn Greene are surely part of that core. I don't think they're championship-caliber players, and the core certainly isn't, but as Br4d said, once the team cuts bait on those guys, they're essentially saying that that core failed and it's time to rebuild.
