People acting like Eli is elite need to stop, did they watch him last week? he made one play which was really made by his WR, other than that he was worse than Sanchez. The TDs and INts are very similar btw the 2 THIS YEAR, the records are identical. The difference is Eli is playing for a div title b/c he doesn't have the Pats in his division.
Sanchez has it at the end of games. Eli had it once. The hope is that the clutch qualities in Sanchez are real and not a fluke. If that's true then Sanchez is going to be a much better QB than Eli in the end. Look at the great QB's of the last decade. Name the one who was Mr. Clutch at the end and won all the rings. Tom Brady is the only one that comes to mind and he hasn't been clutch like that since 2004.
All QB's have putrid performances in big games. It happens. Most of the time they just stunk on the day. Some times their receivers dropped catchable balls all day and their turnstile of a RT got abused by anybody who line up opposite him and their offensive coordinator inexplicably suffered a stroke during the game and called 64 passes in what was essentially a one score game right to the end.
Yeah draft position wise the expectations are bigger for Sanchez but regardless of expectations, a 2nd round QB still carries out huge expectations(Much like any young starting QB does in the league) I don't question Sanchez work ethic. Yeah he may be a bit of a party guy but he constantly gets his teammates together in the offseason out west and has tried constantly to build chemistry with his fellow offensive players. Yeah he's no Brees(NO one does what Brees does as far as preparation goes) but I do think Sean Payton breaking it down with Brees has encouraged Brees to break teams down like this.
I've said this before but it bears repeating now: Mark Sanchez is only working with 4 guys on the offensive side who were here when he joined the Jets 3 short seasons ago. The only guys left are Mangold, D'Brick, Moore and Keller. Everybody else has been turned over, some positions a couple of times. If you plant seeds and want them to grow it's a bad idea to keep turning the earth afterwards. Nothing grows well when it is constantly disturbed by changing circumstances.
Something I never see discussed in NFL terms is the distinction between ability and form. Perhaps it's just that the condensed schedule doesn't allow for players to perform below their best for any extended period without being discarded.
how about all the other great performances he has had within the postseason. do we discount those games because of this past one? i have never seen a qb so criticized for taking a team to back to back championship games
Sanchez has cost us the playoffs this season with his play. The championship games are distant memory's. Tannanbaum and Sanchez are responsible for this nightmare season.
If the Jets run the ball 40 times last week they beat the Giants. Whether you think that's Tannenbaum not providing the talent to do what had been a Jet's staple up until this season or Schotty's unwillingness to call that game plan it's pretty clear that Mark Sanchez was a far lesser factor than either of the above. Hell, if the Jets can cover 3rd and 10 from the Giants 1 they win that game.
Snachez has played like a pussy since he hit the ground against the Ravens. I like the guy but he sucks as an NFL qb right now. I don't want another Joey Harrington hanging around because of his draft status and "potential".
That's pure hyperbole. Harrington never had more than 19 TD's in a season. This despite having #1 pick after #1 pick at WR to work with.
I'll give you this much: when a QB thinks he has no time to execute the game plan he frequently screws up and makes bad decisions, bad throws and bad turnovers. That was the whole point of Rex Ryan's defense in 2009 and it worked. The Jets this year haven't been as bad on offense as the Jets of 2009 were good on defense but their pass protection has been pretty feeble and on any given play there was a real chance there'd be a rusher loose in the backfield on Sanchez. The last time I saw a Jet's QB under this much pressure on an every down basis was in 2007 and both guys the Jets put back there that season failed miserably at driving the offense.
IMO there is no defending the guy. He has the chance Sunday to take a step in the right direction. I for one am ready for the McElroy era to begin, or at least to have someone push Sanchez.
