The Jets need to make some drastic changes Norv Turner is the one guy that can turn Sanchez around if there is any hope of doing so. Bill Callahan does not deserve a shot at OC after the way his offensive line has regressed the last few years and because he was successful 10 years ago is no reason that he should get the job over a creative OC like Turner. Turner cannot run the show but can be a great OC. Also, all this talk about promoting another guy like Cavanaugh who has done nothing to stop the Sanchez regression is another reason why this fanchise always is a joke. Get the guy out of town and give a guy like Chad Pennington a shot as QB coach. In regard to the defense when Spagnuolo gets canned next week he should be brought in but of course that will never happen with Rex because of his love affair with Pettine who has shown me nothing. Last but not least bring it four football guys who know how to scout on the pro and college level to support Tannenbaum since he will never go anywhere as long as he kissing up to clueless Woddy.
Not much needs to be done on D outside of OLB and S. Pettine/RR are fine for our D. Personnel in the aforementioned spots should be upgraded. As for offense, yeah, I'd take Norval over Schittenheimer that's for true.
Pettine's not going anywhere because this is REX' defense and MP's his "yes" man. No way Norv comes here after the comments Rex made about how he would've won a SB with the Chargers had he been hired as HC.
I don't get the Spagnuolo preference. He was very successful with the Giants but he had a completely different set of tools to work with than he'd have here. He did a great job being creative with all the pass rushers the Giants had, but as we all know the Jets don't have anywhere near the pass rushers the Giants do. It's not like he's done anything special with the Rams defense. He doesn't have any experience in Rex's system either. I think Turner is an absolute no brainer if we have a shot at him.
Pettine and Rex are fine calling the Defense. But Rex lacks knowledge of anything on the offensive side. A coach like Norv would be absolutely great to have, he may not be the best head coach but he sure can run an offense. Similar situation with Wade Phillips.
Norv really would be solid. Very good coordinator, shitty HC. It would suck if Rex's mouth screwed up any chance at that.
Not sure about that. Norv probably knows that that was just the media blowing shit out of proportion like always.... RR was complementing the talent on their team and it came across as a jab to Norv. They were talking before the game like nothing happened.
REALLY!? You must be kidding... yeah sign Santa Claus for RT, he's big and fat! PS For the sake of answering seriously Spag is a 4-3 only guy and Rex a 3-4. Norv would bring the same system Schotty tries to run that fails to use Sanchez' skills correctly and clashes with Rex mentality. Also Tanny relies on Joey Clinckscales for scouting... he's not a personell guy. Jeez how retarded is this thread.
If he wanted a shot @ being a HC again, coming here without a doubt would be his best bet. Got an incredible (half) of an offensive line, got an incredibly talented (unproductive) wr and te, and a very good defense on a media heavy team with plenty of potential to get places. 2-3 years here, and if hes even fractionally decent @ his job hes getting tons of HC offers.
The Chargers o-line has been decimated with injuries this year. If our o-line had that many injuries it would have looked much worse.
this is a horrible suggestion. what makes you think turner and rex like each other enough to work with each other when they cant even go through a week of playing each other and not talk shit? you think rex respects him? No. Do you think turner would like taking orders from rex? Absolutely not. Not to mention Spagnuolo is a 4-3 coach who would not fit rex's scheme at all. Pettine isnt going anywhere and even if he did there are so many better options ala Mike Singletary who not only played under buddy but who is a hard ass and knows the 46 and the 3-4. Spagnuolo is soft as chicken shit.
The whole "he's a 3-4/4-3 coach" lost a lot of merit once Ron Rivera (4-3 guy) took over SD's 3-4 and made them effective in their 3-4. It's possible a guy who coaches a 4-3 could coach a 3-4. I don't want Spagnuolo here, though. The defense isn't the problem on this team.
Agreed completely. Still, the guy still has 24 TD's, 19 picks, but 4300 yards passing and an 86.6 rating. Pretty decent stats for anybody and it's considered a shitshow year for him. Look at the numbers he had the past 3 years. Elite level across the board. "Regressed" isn't appropriate when discussing a guy that was "elite" level for 3 full years. Could be line problems (as you pointed out), could just be an off year. Tough to maintain those stats for long periods of time unless you are heading to the HoF.
Rex is not going to bring in a high-profile offensive or defensive coordinator. Especially one with head-coaching experience. Rex would be too threatened by the presence of such a person and, by the middle of next season, fans and the NY media would be calling for that person to replace Rex. The reason Rex likes having people like Schotty and Pettine around is because they are no threat to him. They aren't going to blow the whistle on his obvious shortcomings as a head coach.
