Took Ryans word that the team was fine..and clearly no. He has some pretty bad players that he says he'd take over (insert pro bowler here).
Agree - Tanny should shoulder alot of blame here, putting this mess together. Even some of his less scrutinized decisions are questionable. Keller was a first round pick (#30) and is obviously nowhere near a quality TE in this league and I fear another #30 overall Wilkerson will also not live up to first round stature either. Since 2007 (Revis/Harris) we haven't really accomplished nything through the draft - except the Sanchez experiment. This past offseason we all knew was horseshit
Tannenbaum sucks and always has as a GM...he has at least as many failures as he has successes. He was ok when his only job was structuring contracts, at least he understood that job. He is helpless and hopeless as a GM and always has been.
Wilkerson has been very good this season and will be a starting DE for the Jets for a while. Wilson has developed into a hell of a nickel CB yesterday notwithstanding. Keller is a decent pass catcher but not what you'd expect out of a first round pick. The main problem is he got too cute and we bow have Eric Smith and Wayne Hunter as starters
Come on. Ducass will get better. Mohamed and Ellis at DT, what a coup. Kerley at WR, a great pick up. Another RB for the future and for depth, great move. Drafting Sanchezs buddy Scotty, did not look great but he may be another Kerley, he may be good. Kyle, great. Connor, awesome. McKnight, good move looking back. Pretty good moves looking forward. No more trades though, we need all the players we can get unless we get "the player" We have holes at WR,LB,OL,S and DE The biggest is Safety, all the safeties have 2 go , the Jets have slow LBs but the backups have speed. The WRs are not performing and getting open. Burress and Tonetime need to be sent a message, you are out of here, you cant get open, hit the bricks. We can not go by your past reputation, what have you done lately?
Have to disagree with you on Ducasse. He won't be on the 2012 Jet roster unless he bribes someone. He has no ability at the NFL level. Also Ellis's inability to make the active roster as a 3rd pick tells me he's a bust as well.
I think Tanny allows his HC to have a ton of say in the draft and free agent signings. I think Rex has had a lot of input into the picks, as Mangini did, ie gholston. I think Rex is a big part of the problem.
I think when you draft the best corner in football, the best center in football, an all pro linebacker, a top flight receiver, and an all pro offensive tackle you buy your self some time before your team is in the fire. Still, Tanny has failed to address the safety slot and pass rush in all of his years here so he is far from perfect, but I would still stick with him
bring in a fottball guy to run the team/consultant. don't care if it's tuna, wolff, casserly- the fins look much better in foxboro than we ever did, and those players were selected by tuna- they have depth. look at all the picks tanny dealt to get greene, cro, and don't forget lito shepard.
If Jenkins is right, then imo that alone is grounds for firing Tanny. A GM might occasionally go and get a player or two that the HC likes, but overall, it is the GM's job to judge what the team needs talent-wise, then go out and get it. It is the HC's job to coach those players up and get them to play well as a team. It isn't the GM's job to be the HC's errand boy and just go get the players the HC wants. No intelligent GM who had a team that had been to back-to-back AFC Championship Games and was expected to challenge to go to another would have gone into a strike-shortened season with no quality veteran depth on the OL, particularly where the offense was supposedly built around running the ball, and have a career backup as a starter. Many HCs are not particularly good evaluators of talent. The Tuna always made a big deal about "shopping for his own groceries" then didn't do a particularly good job when he got the opportunity. The Jets need a topflight pro personnel man since Tanny is an accountant/attorney and not a football man. In addition to not being good at finding players later in the draft, Tanny has to trade up too much to get good players. Going into a strike-shortened season, there's no way he should have let Rex jettison 1/4 of the roster. That's too much turnover with a shortened-practice schedule and TC. The team has also let too many of its "leaders" go over the last several years, and it showed on the field this season. Tanny should also have seen that Schotty was a problem and either fired him or told Rex to replace him a year or two ago. The Jets didn't field the same quality team this year that they had in 2010 or even 2009. Whereas the team should have improved significantly, it hasn't. It has taken a major step back. The Jets' pass rush has been woeful and Tanny has done nothing to address it save for Gholston. He trades away so many draft picks, that he is unable to address the various parts of the roster with any regularity. The two glaring needs that the Jets had entering the 2011 season were the pass rush and at S. Tanny did nothing to address either. Tanny is one of, if not THE best GM the Jets have ever had, but that's not saying much given their sorry ass history and some of the incredibly stupid draft picks and FA signings they've had. I definitely believe that Tanny should be held accountable and if not fired, put on notice, that he'd better turn things around this offseason, or it will be his last with the Jets.
For all the good moves Tannenbaum has done, he obviously does not have a clue when it comes to filling the most important position on the field: QB. So far, Clemens, Favre and Sanchez have all been less than impressive to say the least. If he is unable to bring in a quality QB to turn this sinking ship around, his days will obviously be numbered.
The first two are an issue. Revis blew ass his first year in the NFL. Kyle Wilson plays at a pretty good level. 1st rounder? Its early. Ducasse was a project pick. Special teams...... i dont know.
Where is Jimmy Johnson? Get his ass off his boat and let him pick the groceries. JJ can pick some delicious groceries. Then Tanny can just concentrate on being an accountant.
We don't have a Herschel Walker to trade. And there isn't a team as dumb as the Vikings were back then. And our GM is not smart enough to stockpile draft picks.
GM did not stockpile draft picks because he was going for major contributors. This resulted in picks like Revis, Greene, Harris and yes Sanchez, as well as trades fro Cromartie & Holmes This year seems to be a year where they have kept all their picks and will use the draft to stockpile and fill in needs. Time will tell. It's good to call Tanny out, but the time to judge him is at least a year away
Yeah so let's fire one of the best gm in the nfl, because a bunch of fans are pissy. Nevermind the shortened offseason and lackluster free agency period. put this in persepective, buffalo overpaid for brad smith, who was a great roleplayer. We lost our downfield threat. Our oline got weaker thru injury and fa, and our defense got older. So you tell me how he was supposed to fix all that in any offseason, especially a short one? Sent from my SGH-T589 using Tapatalk
Tanny was the asst GM for years under Bradway and has been GM for 6 years now. He has drafted some real elite talent at times, but when you grade out the big picture, he seems startlingly average because of the sacrifices made to acquire talent in both the draft and FA, and the resulting holes in the roster. I would set the judgment time at half a decade, not 3/4s. I'm not saying fire the guy, but he needs better help in the talent evaluation department, because as I said before, he's a contract lawyer, not a football guru. These mid-to-late round misses reek of Terry Bradway.
