Schotty ran the ball 4 times for 33 yards at the start of the game yesterday and then called passes 6 of the next 7 plays. Puhleeze...

Not quite. Brees has said that it was the benching in SD and subsequent drafting of Rivers that made him realize that he had to work harder and change his preparation for the game.

Why are people always defending Sanchez, "oh shotty sucks", "oh Wayne Hunter sucks", "oh if only he had Calvin Johnson to throw to", good Qb finds ways to be good period. Dude is not who we hope hed be when we drafted him and probally will never be. Is he servicable sure but so are other quarterbacks in the league, he will never get us to a superbowl period.

That's a great point to and exactly what I was thinking before the Holmes Blip.....

Didn't the Raiders run like 15 times in a row VS us once? You don't have to deviate from what is working just to try and mix it up or trick the other team....

    RUN THE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And when you decide to finally throw a pass .. the PLAY ACTION is right there for you....

    Come on man!

I say run the ball 10 straight times to open VS the Giants - Who cares if you have to punt... Didn't an old Jet coach say Punts are good?

Jets started this game running like Men against boys..... Announcers were talking about the Philly undersized Defense and it looked like they were going to be manhandled.

I blame Sanchez for being a Panzy Ass Cali boy lacking in on the field leadership skills and ability to read a defense pre-snap and make the necessary changes OR get the #### rid of the ball.

I fault Sanchez for looking like such a pussy on the sidelines when we haven't even entered the 2nd half. A few times in yesterday's game the camera pans over to him, looking as if someone stole his puppy and lunch money in the same day. Be a man about it, especially at that point in the game- yeah, it sucks that you are down, but to sit there like that is really pathetic.

And if I'm not mistaken, several of those passes were empty backfield shotgun formation.

Way to work the play action. (Sigh)

It just makes no sense at all.

The Jets should never be in the shotgun except on 3rd and long. Never. The thing Sanchez is really good at is selling play-action. Having him in a guaranteed non-play-action formation on a down when the Jets might run just makes no sense at all.

That's Schotty's ego taking over there because he is doing something not in the team's best interests so that his offense looks more varied.

The HOe-Line is utter garbage, and he's playing under a complete buffoon

Hey rex maybe next year you won't start eric smith at safety. This guy is fucking TRASH!!! How many times a game must we see eric smith chasing down a receiver because hes fucking garbage?

Ftr, I was not suggesting you go back to your Johnny One Note approach here, but apparently you don't require any real prompting to do what you think you do best.

Jets first possession, Greene had run the ball four times in a row, including a scamper for 13. I thought he took himself out then, but even if he didn't, the call to change it up was not hard to understand. They inserted LT in the lineup for a screen, but Matthews sniffed it out for a 4 yard loss. In fact I think Sanchez should have seen that coming and checked it off. He didn't.

Now it's second and 14. Not a running play. That was the play where Holmes fumbled.

Are you seriously suggesting that Schotty should be crucified for passing on second and 14? (You may well be, but that would not be reasonable.)

Next possession, the throw on first drew a PI call. First down, the Jets give it to Greene. Who gets three yards. On second down Sanchez is sacked. Jets fail to convert on third and long, but recover the punt. First play of the possession? Greene runs for no gain. On second and ten, they pass to Holmes, and that is the pass that Samuel intercepted.

So, you think Schotty should be crucified for throwing it on second and ten when Greene's two previous runs had gone for a total of 3 yards? (You probably do. But that would not be reasonable.)

Next Jet possession, down 14-0, they run Greene on first and second down. On third, Hunter draws a penalty for a false start. So they face third and 8, and Sanchez is sacked.

You think Schotty should be crucified for attempting a pass on third and 8? You probably do. But taht would not be reasonable.)

And aren't you the one who complains that Schotty hampers Sanchez?

Why can't Schotty rely on Sanchez on obvious passing downs? Is Sanchez that bad?

If not for Rex's "elite" defense, Sanchez would have gotten the Jets to a Super Bowl two years in a row

Couldn't have said it better myself. The schotty haters are delusional. I never make him out to be the greatest OC in the NFL but hes by no means the problem.
Sanchez who I like very much is still inconsistent but improving. When things get down early he seems to let it snowball. Our O line has played far worse with Hunter being the exclamation mark on that. Greene has come on strong lately but for awhile we couldn't run the ball at all. Our receiving core is a revolving door and frankly not all that impressive. Holmes is a decent #1 but not a top ten receiver. Plax should not be a #2 at all. Keller disappears.
Our offense is not as talented as people here like to believe they are.

Seriously? If not for the defense, the Jets wouldnt have been in the playoffs. Do you believe Sanchez was carrying the team?

It's not about the fact that they either ran or passed in certain down/distance situations, it's the fact that the calls are so PREDICTABLE! I wouldn't argue with most of the points you made here based on the way you stated it (other than the screen on the 5th play when there was no reason at all not to just keep running it) but just saying that passing on 2nd and 14 is logical doesn't tell the whole story.

If an average fan like myself can sit there and basically call out what each play is going to be (run or pass) based on the personnel and formation, something is wrong. Sure, the players need to execute, but when you tip your hand to the defense on virtually every play it puts the offense at a huge disadvantage before the ball is even snapped.
