The New England Patriots have waived WR Taylor Price. In a corresponding move, the team signed practice squad OG Nick McDonald to their active roster. Read more: http://www.kffl.com/gnews.php?id=757610-patriots-taylor-price-waived#ixzz1fVuBZPby He was drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio University http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Price Another blown draft pick by Billy B....If it wasn't for Brady, Billy B would be a DC somewhere
Yes because so many 3rd rounders pan out... They also got McCourty, Gronkowski, Hernandez and 4 other players still on the roster out of that draft. We got Wilson, McKnight, Conner, Ducasse with our picks. (we also traded picks for 1 year each of Santonio and Braylon) They smoked us that draft, blown 3rd rounder or not.
I think that Belichik's lack of ego and ability to admit mistakes and move on helps the pats in the long run. Sure he has made some mistakes in the draft, all teams do. The fact he recognizes it and deals with it is alot better than keeping guys around taking up roster spots for years hoping they'll get it eventually. Also, they have a bunch of injuries on the OL and needed a body. Price has practice squad eligibility and could be brought back if he's not claimed.
Yeah Mccourty has looked great. Besides that Draft tell me one good player they have picked up in the draft in the past 3 years besides Jerrod Mayo. Cunningham, Spikes, Guyton, Brace, Price, Tate, the list goes on and on. I still think Spikes can Pan out but he definitely would have been better suited in the 3-4.
Vollmer? Chung? I am very happy with what I have seen so far from Spikes. I also don't think that Gronkowski, Hernandez, Mayo, McCourty, Spikes, Vollmer, Chung, Edelman, & Slater is such a bad haul for a three year span. We also still have a handful of depth players from those drafts, many of whom have missed time this season due to injury. As far as Price goes, he was a gamble from the beginning - and only a 3rd round gamble at that. He was a guy who had the measurables, but clearly was going to need more work to transition to the NFL than most. It's kind of disappointing, especially because he showed a lot of promise at times, but there is no reason anyone should be furious over this.
Isn't it then way to early to be giving up on him?If he was going to take time to develop then it was always unlikely to expect anything after a season and a half (and because of the lock out,he's never had a full offseason program). Regardless it's another failed attempt to draft and develop a WR.It's not as if your offense is screwed, but if it had one weakness then I'd say you still lack someone that go deep from the outside.
He went 11-5 without Brady in 2008 and is one of the best coaches in the history of the game. He sure as hell woldn't be a DC.
lol I saw 'Patriots waive WR' on the front page and figured they'd finally got rid of Ochostinko. And yes Billy B needs an actual GM to help with the draft, he hasn't had one since Pioli left. Their defensive draft picks, in particular have been horrendous the last few years.
The Pats drafts got significantly better when Pioli left. 2010 with McCourty, Gronk, Hernandez, Spikes and Mesko is way, way better than anything I saw when Pioli was here. Look at some of the drafts under Pioli: http://internet128.com/index.php/2008/04/26/new-england-patriots-2008-draft/
If he were still here, I would certainly be making that argument. Obviously the CS came to the conclusion that more time wasn't going to turn him into anything special. Maybe that was because of work ethic, maybe lack of progress to date, idk. What makes it really confusing is that, right before his last injury, Bill O'Brien told the media that he was planning on getting Price more involved in the offense, because he had been practicing hard and performing well. “He’s done a good job in practice. He’s a guy that we’ve got to give him more reps in the game.” When he was asked how that might happen, O’Brien responded: “You’ll see that on Sunday.” http://m.weei.com/sports/feed/blog/anonymous/bill-o’brien-taylor-price-‘we-need-get-him-there-more’ People will go to such great lengths to criticize Belichick. Our two drafts since Pioli left have yielded far more talent than the three prior to his departure combined.
Other than 2010, I assume you mean 2009 and 2008 since it's too early for 2011. 2009- Chung, Vollmer, Pryor, Edelman (hoyer too if we count undrafteds) 2008- Rough draft, only real impact player was Mayo. Though they did sign Green-Ellis and Guyton as UDFA. So really they had 1 bad draft and 2 good ones in the last 3. Jets by Comparison 2009: Sanchez, Greene, Slauson 2008: Keller.... that's it. So really they have probably drafted better than we have.
Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa Bay, New York Jets all put in waiver claims for former Pats WR Taylor Price, who was awarded to Jaguars. https://twitter.com/#!/AdamSchefter
