I'm just curious how you all feel a year later about Matt Slauson. I think he was a steal because he has been a really solid player from last year to now. Of course he had his errors last year but seems to be doing well. How do you guys feel about him? Also I like the amount of 'talking' he does which shows he feels confident
He's been solid and Im fine with the left side of the line for years to come (although D'brick has played under his potential)... As posted above, Hunter and Mulligan combined with a predictable blocking scheme=a long season on offense
Woody + Harsock = Dominant OL Hunter + Mulligan = Hot Garbage OL It's simply unfair to put any blame on Slauson.
We haven't heard much about him, which is a good thing. Means he isn't committing penalties and isn't getting beaten like a drum like Hunter or Mulligan are.
He is fine. He isn't gonna an anchor on he line but he holds his own just fine inbetween mangold and brick.
I am not putting blame on Slauson because of the hot garbage that is Hunter + Mulligan. I think Slauson has regressed somewhat this season, along with Moore. If VD does not pan out next season, Jets OL is in deep shit.
I don't know why the word "regressed" gets thrown around so easily. I don't think he's playing worse than last season. He's neither a weak link nor a strong point on the line right now.
IMO he's played much better than last season, therefore, he's made "progress" slight, not drastic, but "progress" nontheless. If he gets better a little bit each year, he'll be a pretty solid LG in his prime.
i feel like him and mangold are playing pretty well this season. brick has been getting beaet a little, moore has been alright, hunter is playing like trash and mulligan wishes he could have a mulligan on the season.
Slauson has been OK. Don't think he's an all-pro but he's holding his own. Considering his salary & how he was acquired, I think he's been a solid pickup. However, OL as a whole can't be much stronger than weakest link & Hunter is looking pretty bad. Keller's blocking isn't that good & Mulligan is a TE that can't block/catch/ avoid penalties. I'm liking Slauson's progress because let's face it, Mangold probably spends every snap wondering how he's gonna deal w/ Hunter .... so it's doubtful he's getting the Mangold help that the other side of the line gets.
Slauson is just another guy, and with an inconsistent, young quarterback heavily dependent on a strong ground game, upgrading several offensive line positions this offseason would be the prudent thing to do.
so how is slausons progress? that was the original question right? he does look lost and seems to be looking for someone to block occasionally. is ferguson down this year because of slauson or is it his own bad play? is he helping when he needs to? is he getting to the second level when he needs to? is he handling stunts properly? i dont know the answers but some of them would be better than mulligan and hunter are the problem. why are there so many posts about mulligan and hunter? is reading comprehension an issue or is it just the in thing to say? devito what do you mean by talking? on the field tlaking shit type talking or something else. i didnt really understand what you meant by the last part of the op
Considering what he cost and how he's been producing, he's a steal. He's got less penalties than last year and he is not the weakest link on the OL. When this oline is dominating front 4's, we can start looking at replacing Slaw. Until then we have 2 other major concerns on the OLine.
My issue with Slauson is the stupid penalties. I think there has been a reduction of them this season, however.
