I'm not as optimistic about Mike T and Rex in the draft. Moving up and giving away draft picks is not the best way to build a team. The most important part of a team is the OL and DL. We need better back-ups at every position especially OL and DL. It's time to start thinking about Sanchez ability as the franchise. He needs some competition. I also agree that we need better RBs. Green is not, IMO, an every down back. LBer is another area that has to be addressed.
In the offseason, the simplest move to make would simply be to get Braylon Edwards back. -Get a RT that doesn't suck. - Get a backup quarterback that can actually pressure Sanchez to play better, and not make him feel like his job is secure even if he were to throw 7 picks in a game like Brunell does.
1. Pass rusher - we have a need here 2. RT - we all know we are desperate for help here 3. Safety - but only by trade/free agency, the draft doesn't seem to have any safeties we would go for 4. OL - depending on who we can get in the draft Oh! and a new OC obviously!
No one remembers Woody regressing, hurting his knee, and then having an injured achilles in the playoffs last year? Hunter played well in his absence, but he's not a starter. That's where we got burned. Not letting Woody go. Overpaying for a would be 34 year old player past his prime is not what you do when you have a solid core of guys you just gave contracts to. They are building for the future and so far have looked to miss on Ducasse. I haven't lost faith in this front office, not by a long shot.
I'd like to see Braylon re-signed, go get at least one safety, preferably SS in free agency. Re-sign Turner if we want to address O-line depth in FA. Re-sign Pool if asking price is right. Hunter should be let go (+2.5 mill), let Ducasse get another year. Don't bring back Bryan Thomas. Cutting Eric Smith would save 2 mill, but maybe he would restructure. In the draft, I think anything that can help the defensive front 7 (Burfict, Upshaw) in the first round and the best available OL in the second. Then we could possibly dip into the WR depth of this draft in the 3rd then I say go back to the offensive line if we don't re-sign Turner.
1) O.C - anyone is better than Schittenhiemer 2) Right Tackle - someone who is better Wayne Hunter, this guy flat out sucks 3) Sign Braylon - go sign Braylon. Him and Mark had good chemistry and Braylon could stretch the field 4) Get a Safety - we need to get someone who can cover a TE, preferably a black safety 5) Pass Rusher - self explanatory, we need someone who can get to the QB
In my opinion, this might be one of the most ridiculous things ive read since becoming a member of this board. happy thanksgiving.
while from a talent and execution standpoint I agree. Jimmy is twice the player Smith is. However Jimmy's contract is up after this year. Smith just got a new deal. could we cut smith? yup and I hope we do. but its probably more likely Smith stays and Jimmy leaves
you wont catch me arguing with you. I want Jimmy back in green and white. I also think Eric Smith should be sleeping on the street with Matt Mulligan huddling for warmth. But based on which guy is under contract, and which one isnt, its just my thoughts. Hopefully both end up back. Smith in his actual backup role, where he belongs.
We may move on from both but I think Jimmy would come back cheaply. http://nyjetscap.com/ericsmith.html I'm not an expert but it doesn't look like we are financially married to Eric Smith after this year?
in fact it actually looks like he is 'free' to cut after this year. Which would be great, because hes terrible. I would think Jimmy would come back on the cheap as well, he loves rex, and wouldnt want to play anywhere else. Just a question of would we want him back. I hope so, but i could see Tanny wanting to move on and trying to find a more impact play safety in FA.
They need to draft an OLB in the first round. For some dumbass reason they've avoided filling that gaping need for two years now. RT is easy just sign a free agent or trade for one. Obviously a new OC also. Schotty hasnt managed a capable offense for half a decade now. Enough is enough.
A defense can not succeed when they have two safeties who lack good athletic ability. I would welcome Jimmy back as long as Smith is on the street and we sign an athletic safety who can make up for what Jimmy lacks. They are about 3-4 safeties who the Jets should be targeting in FA
nice site. from http://nyjetscap.com/freeagents.html Pool, Smith & Leonard all seem to be potential FA after this season. Jets can totally remake themselves @ safety positions.
