So is Coach Parcells Pro Football Hall Of Fame 2012 Semifinalists: Bill Parcells, Curtis Martin Top List By Pat Johnston - Newsdesk contributor Curtis Martin and Bill Parcells are 2012 Pro Hall of Fame Semifinalists Follow @sbnationny on Twitter, and Like SB Nation New York on Facebook. Nov 22, 2011 - Former New York Jets running back Curtis Martin was a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot in which he was eligible in 2011. After surviving the initial cut for modern-era players from 25 semifinalists to 15 finalists, he was again on the right side when the cut to 10 players was made. The Jets' all-time leading rusher was not included when the list was pared down to just five names. The list of the Class of 2012 Hall of Fame Semifinalists was released today (via Pro Football Hall of Fame). As expected, Curtis Martin is on it once again. When Martin was not inducted with the 2011 class, it set up the possibility that now exists: Martin could be inducted with his former coach Bill Parcells, who is also a 2012 semifinalist. Martin has said that he wants Parcells to be his presenter during the induction ceremony (via ESPN New York). Parcells was Martin's coach at New England and in New York. Martin played for the Patriots from 1995-1997 and for the Jets from 1998-2005. With 14,101 rushing yards in 11 seasons, he is the fourth leading rusher in NFL history behind Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders and Walter Peyton. Parcells coached the New York Giants from 1983-1990, the Patriots from 1993-1996, and then moved to the Jets (1997-1999) before finishing his career with the Dallas Cowboys (2003-2006). Parcells won two Super Bowls with the Giants in 1986 and 1990 and the AFC Championship with the Patriots in 1996. He also took the Jets to the 1998 AFC Championship game. http://newyork.sbnation.com/new-yor...ells-football-hall-of-fame-2012-semifinalists
Huge fan of both Curtis Martin and Bill Parcells as my earliest memory of NFL football is the 1998 Jets. If C Martin doesn't get inducted this time I'll riot.
Curtis will get in this year, BP deserves to be in and he will eventually but b/c you never know if he will coach again I doubt they vote him in.
curtis martin should be in and i hope will be in this year. he was exactly what you want in a pro and leader of your team. not flashy, but he got the job done every week come hell or high water.
curtis and parcells definitely go in first ballot. martin is 4th all time so i dont really see how you keep him out without their being an agenda by the voters. and parcells has 2 rings and helped create the greatest LB to ever play the game (LT). once again, agenda is the only thing that keeps him out.
Martin got snubbed first ballot last year. But I don't see how he's overlooked this class. Not that it matters too much to the voters but I could see them pairing Parcells and Martin going in. Martin's said all along he wanted to be presented by BP.
I wouldn't really give BP credit for LT, he's a once in a generation talent. Parcells will make it but it may take some time. People kind of forget how great a coach he was b/c of his failings as a GM type, this man turned around 3 awful franchises, won a SB w/ one, made one w/ another and made a title game w/ a 3rd. NY Giants 1964-1982 pre Parcells (19 seasons): 72-168-4, 30%, 3 winning seasons, 1 playoff season NY Giants 1983-1990 w/ Parcells(8 seasons): 77-49-1, 61%, 6 winning seasons, 5 playoff seasons, 2 SB wins NE Patriots pre-Parcells 1987-1992(6 seasons): 29-64, 31%, 2 winning seasons, zero playoff apps, a 1 and 2 win season, a major sexual harrassment incident,... NE Patriots 1993-1996 w/ Parcells(4 seasons): 32-32, 50%, 2 winning seasons, 2 playoff seasons, 1 SB appearance NY Jets pre-Parcells 1987-1996(10 seasons): 54-104, 34%, 1 winning season, 1 playoff season, won 4 games the previous 2 years. NY Jets w/ Parcells 1997-19993 seasons): 29-19, 60%, 2 winning seasons, 1 playoff app, 1 title game app If that's not a HOF coach I don't know what is
This... Well said Curtis Martin was a class act through and through. One of the Best to ever wear the Green and White. If he makes it in this year I would like to go to Canton.
You have to give him credit. a pretty good amount too. first off, no one had ever seen a guy like him, and for parcells to take him and utilize the 3-4 to play to his strengths, at a time when it wasnt really used much, is one reason. the other, and most likely the most important, is the way he was able to get so much out of a guy who clearly needed a ton of guidance to stay focused and into football. you gotta believe that a lot of coaches in the league would not have been able to deal with a guy who was a severe drug abuser, a huge drinker, a big time party-er, and just all around trouble, in the toughest city to deal with those type of things.
Curtis didn't go in first ballot he was eligible last year and didn't make it. Big list this year: Will Shields Tim Brown Chris Carter Andre Reed Steve Atwater Donnie Shell Aeneas Williams Chris Doleman Kevin Greene Charles Haley Clay Mattews Karl Mecklenburg Cortez Kennedy Roger Craig Terrell Davis Demontti Dawson Will Roaf Steve Tasker Martin has a good shot if they put 5 to 7 guys in. They shouldn't but they will.
thats not his job. his job is to get the best he can out of him on the field, and make sure he can play. considering he revolutionized the position under his watch, I'd say parcells did his job and then some.
he did but I can't give him credit for LT, LT was going to be great anywhere. he was a difference maker from day 1.
i agree with you on that he was a difference maker from day one and would have been great anywhere, but he wasnt great. he was legendary. a certified, undeniable legend. he changed the game of football. no average coach would have gotten him to that level, nor gotten him to respect him like parcells did.
