So NFL Today on CBS just showed a clip of the Tebow TD and how it should have been penalized because Decker was CLEARLY holding Cro's jersey. I swear I had no idea this was the case. I thought Cro was slacking off and not making an effort on the play. That's how the media viewed it too. I wish I could have a picture of the screenshot CBS showed. Clear hold by Decker. Damn, what could have been...
Antonio Cromartie was not tackling Tim Tebow regardless. The kid is bigger than him, had a full head of steam, and more heart.
Regardless, the play should have been penalized, and from who knows what could have been. Of course, this can only remain to be a "if only"-type scenario, but damn the refs missed that big time. They were probably all hopped up on the Tebow kool-aid.
I'm not sure it would have ultimately kept the Broncos out of the endzone, but that sucks. Of course, the absurdity of conspiracy theories notwithstanding, there's an obvious reason why the NFL might want Tebow to get the benefit of calls like that. He's going to draw in an additional element of the college crowd and the Jesus freaks for as long as he's starting.
Of course, this can only remain to be a "if only"-type scenario, but damn the refs missed that big time. They were probably all hopped up on the Tebow kool-aid. Unfortunately, the refs were handed a nice tall, cold pitcher of that kool-aid by the Jets D on the 95 yard drive.
That's not his point. Holding can take place 30 yards off the ball and still be holding. If it had been called, there's no guarantee that Cro would have had to make a tackle on the following play.
I sometimes really wonder If these games are somewhat fixed. I'm not some type of crazy conspiracy guy or anything, but the refs absolutely do have the power to decide who wins the game. This is a perfect example. All touchdowns are supposed to be reviewed. With all the camera's and technology, the refs should be able to get a view of every single player. If they want to find a foul they probably can on almost any play.
If a penalty had been called, would Cro have to give back the $50 bucks he paid Decker to keep him out of harms way?????
Not really interested in the Cro holding because everybody gets away with non-calls occasionally. If Cro wasn't held, I'd be shocked if he tackles Tebow. It was a smart play by Tebow to take advantage of a terrible defensive call by the Jets. Heavy blitz up the middle that left Eric Smith to hold the edge & only Jet available to back him up is Cro if he manages to shed a block. That defensive play was doomed from the very beginning.
On further review... Decker was preventing Cromartie from running away from the play and down the tunnel. That way Decker could pretend he was blocking and Cro could pretend he had an intention of doing something.
Holding happens on almost every play, it's just a matter of when the players involved make it so obvious that the refs have no choice but to throw a flag. I'm not saying that Decker didn't get away with one there, just that it shouldn't surprise anyone.
